“Counterfeit Goods: Strategies to Protect Genuine Products and Reputable Brands”
Master Nguyen Thanh Hai, General Director of Khanh Hoa Bird’s Nest Company, shared that the rapid development of the bird’s nest market comes with significant challenges.
According to Mr. Hai, the market is flooded with products labeled as “bird’s nest” but are actually made from cheap ingredients such as agar powder, egg whites, gelatin, or substandard additives. Worryingly, some canned and bottled bird’s nest drinks blatantly copy the designs and names of well-known brands such as Khanh Hoa Bird’s Nest, Sanest, and Sanvinest, easily confusing consumers.
Mr. Hai added that since the beginning of the year, more than 30 entities have been found to be using the company’s name, product components, and images without authorization. Many fake websites with the term “yensaokhanhhoa” are still operating, severely eroding customer trust.

The counterfeiters take advantage of e-commerce, social media, and livestreaming to flood the market with unregulated products. The packaging often lacks transparent information, and the declared bird’s nest content is arbitrary, without verification or certification from authorities.
Notably, many bird’s nest bottles are sold at extremely low prices, ranging from 9,000 to 15,000 VND per bottle, which is completely irrational compared to the actual value of bird’s nests. The substitute ingredients, including chemical sweeteners, synthetic flavors, and cheap additives, pose a serious health risk to consumers.
Some processing facilities allow partners to arbitrarily set names and declare high bird’s nest content, even if the product does not contain any bird’s nest. Crucial steps such as raw material testing, component authentication, and quality declaration are often skipped. In some cases, they even design and print product labels with arbitrary information. Despite these serious violations, these products continue to circulate openly without inspection or punishment.
Mr. Hai warned that Vietnam’s food supplement industry is growing at over 10% annually, with bird’s nest products accounting for an increasingly large proportion. The rapid development, coupled with the entry of many small businesses lacking quality control capabilities, is turning the market into a hotbed for counterfeit and imitation goods.
