On August 12, the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) announced that the expansion of the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh Highway to 8-10 lanes will commence on August 19, with an expected completion date of December 2026.

As per the approved plan, the project will expand the highway by building additional lanes on both sides of the existing road. The exception is the Long Thanh Bridge section, which will be expanded on the right side of the route (downstream).

With a total investment of VND 14,945 billion, VEC serves as the managing authority, investor, and direct implementer of the project. In terms of scale, the 4.8-kilometer section from Vanh Dai 2 to Vanh Dai 3 Interchange will be expanded from 4 lanes to 8 lanes. The 14.7-kilometer section from Vanh Dai 3 to Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Highway Interchange will be expanded from 4 lanes to 10 lanes. For the Long Thanh Bridge, a new bridge unit with 5 complete lanes will be constructed in the direction from Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh, adjacent to the existing bridge.

Regarding construction progress, the project is designated as an emergency construction project. The Long Thanh Bridge is expected to be structurally complete by December 2026, with the remaining components finished by March 2027.
