The National Scientific Conference on the theme “August Revolution and National Day 2/9: Timeless Values and Lasting Vitality” was held this afternoon (August 14) under the joint organization of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences; the Central Committee for Propaganda and Mass Mobilization; the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, and Hanoi City.

The conference was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh; Head of the Central Committee for Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Nguyen Trong Nghia; Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics Nguyen Xuan Thang; Hanoi City Party Committee Secretary Bui Thi Minh Hoai; leaders of some ministries, branches, localities, and experts.

The pinnacle of indomitable will

Speaking at the conference on behalf of the leaders of the Party and State, Comrade Nguyen Hoa Binh emphasized that this event offered an opportunity to look back on the glorious history of our nation, take pride in the brilliant achievements made by the entire Party, people, and army, and look forward to a bright future for the country. During these sacred days, we express our infinite gratitude to the great President Ho Chi Minh, the leaders of the Party, and remember with deep gratitude all the heroes, martyrs, compatriots, and comrades who bravely sacrificed their lives in the resistance wars against foreign invaders, striving for national independence, and establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam so that the Vietnamese people could live in freedom, peace, independence, and unity.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, eighty years ago, our nation achieved the glorious August Revolution, a historic feat. It was the pinnacle of indomitable will and the crystallization of patriotic spirit accumulated through generations of valiant struggles against colonial and feudal rule.

The August Revolution ushered in a new era in the history of our nation. From being slaves, the Vietnamese people became the masters of the country and their own destiny. Vietnam transformed from a feudal and colonial backward country into an independent, democratic, and free nation. The success of the August Revolution and the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam were among the most significant turning points in the thousand-year history of our nation.

“The August Revolution not only holds great significance for Vietnam but also carries profound international and epochal values. It dealt a severe blow to the old colonial system worldwide, making an important contribution to the era of national liberation globally. The August Revolution served as an inspiration and a powerful driving force for the national liberation movements of colonial countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America to rise up for independence. It was also a victory for the communist and worker movement and the struggle for peace and social progress worldwide…”, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh emphasized.

At the same time, he pointed out that the August Revolution affirmed the wise leadership of the Indochinese Communist Party – a young party, only 15 years old, but capable of leading the revolution to success and seizing and maintaining power nationwide. This proved the power of revolutionary truth and the ingenious leadership of the excellent Vietnamese communists.

Under the glorious flag of the Viet Minh Front, all sources of strength, from traditional to modern, from urban to rural areas, and from all strata of the people were awakened and united into an invincible bloc. It was the strength of the entire nation, the great unity of the Vietnamese ethnic community, and the combination of national strength and the strength of the era under the leadership of the glorious Party and the great President Ho Chi Minh.

The August Revolution affirmed the immortal truth: No force can withstand a nation with a thousand-year history of patriotism, responding to the call of “Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom”, determined to break the chains of nearly a hundred years of colonial rule and abolish the monarchy of over a thousand years, thus making a true revolution – not only changing the ruling regime but also transforming the destiny of a nation.

Affirming Great Historical Lessons

According to Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh, the August Revolution affirmed great historical lessons.

Firstly, the leadership of the Party is the decisive factor in all victories. The first and most important lesson is the correct and wise leadership of the Party. The success of the August Revolution in 1945 is a vivid testament to history’s right choice.

The country has witnessed the failure of many patriotic movements before, but only the Communist Party of Vietnam has succeeded. This is because, from the very beginning, the Party had noble ideals, correct policies, and truly represented the interests of the people. It relied mainly on its own strength, united the great national solidarity, persevered in preparing forces, seized the opportunity of “Japan and France fighting each other and our action”, and skillfully combined political struggle with armed insurrection. Without the Communist Party, there would be no Vietnam today. This is an irrefutable truth affirmed by reality.

Secondly, Marxism-Leninism, Ho Chi Minh Thought, the flag of national independence, and socialism are the guiding lights to the future. Persevering in and creatively applying Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought is the solid ideological foundation for all victories of the Vietnamese revolution. From achieving national independence to constructing and defending the Fatherland, from the resistance wars for national liberation to the renewal process for national development, we have always adhered to the flag of national independence associated with socialism.

In the new era, the creative application and development of this ideological foundation in the context of national construction and development have brought about important breakthroughs. The Party’s renewal line, the principles of Party building, and ensuring national interests based on the principles of international law all stem from this solid foundation. This is the compass that guides us through all difficulties and challenges to build a prosperous and mighty Vietnam.

Thirdly, the people are the revolutionary’s invincible strength. The August Revolution in 1945 was a great victory of the Vietnamese nation and people. “Taking the people as the root” is a profound philosophy that our Party has consistently adhered to for eighty years and an immortal lesson for all ages. The interests and aspirations of the people have always been the highest goal and the driving force and yardstick for all activities of the Party and State. Practice is the criterion of truth – from the August Revolution to the present, all policies and decisions must be based on the interests of the people.

In the Ho Chi Minh era, the lesson of serving the people and taking their will and interests as the starting point and benchmark for all policies, guidelines, and actions has brought about great achievements in national construction, defense, and development. Today, as our country stands at new opportunities and challenges, we must vow to dedicate ourselves to the nation and people, listen to the voice of the people, and fulfill their aspirations.

Fourthly, patriotism is an inexhaustible source of spiritual strength. Patriotism and national spirit are infinite sources of strength and the soul of the Vietnamese revolution, forged through thousands of years of history. From the spirit of “Independence – Freedom – Happiness” in 1945 to the determination of “Ready to sacrifice everything for the Fatherland” in the resistance wars, the national spirit has always been an inexhaustible flame driving the Vietnamese people forward.

Today, in the new era, the spirit of patriotism continues to flourish through the aspiration to build a mighty, prosperous, civilized, and happy Vietnam. It is reflected in the pride in every “Made in Vietnam” and “Made by Vietnam” product, every scientific and technological achievement, and every step forward of the country. Patriotism in the new era means dedication, intelligence, and positive contributions to the nation’s development. Patriotism and the spirit of self-respect, self-reliance, and self-strengthening are the driving forces for us to overcome all difficulties and challenges to build a mighty country.

Fifthly, national unity is the key to the success of the Vietnamese revolution. Great national unity is the “source of strength” and the “red thread” running through the history of the Vietnamese revolution. The success of the August Revolution in 1945 proved President Ho Chi Minh’s immortal saying: “Unity, unity, great unity – Success, success, great success”. When “millions of people are of one heart and mind, standing up together” under the leadership of the Party, this strength created a historic feat, regaining independence and freedom for the nation.

The concerted efforts of the entire people, between regions, strata, religions, and ethnic groups, have turned dangers into safety and overcome all challenges. Today, in the cause of national construction and defense, the spirit of great national unity continues to be the decisive factor in all victories, from economic development and response to natural disasters and epidemics to the protection of national sovereignty. Every achievement of the country is the crystallization of the great national unity – an inexhaustible resource for Vietnam’s prosperous development.

Sixthly, building a clean and strong Party is the foundation for the country’s development. From the success of the August Revolution in 1945, when the Party had only 5,000 members, but with correct policies, unwavering spirit, and indomitable will, it led the people to a glorious victory, establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

History has proven that the stronger the Party is, the more victorious the revolution will be, and the more prosperous the country will become. In the new era, the task of constantly renewing, rectifying, and enhancing the leadership and ruling capacity of the Party is of decisive importance for the Party to remain eternal with the nation. Only when the Party is truly pure and strong will the goal of “a rich people, a strong country, democracy, equality, and civilization” become a reality, leading the country into an era of development and prosperity.

History is gloriously continuing

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh affirmed that the past eighty years since independence has been a heroic journey for the Vietnamese nation. Under the leadership of the Party and Uncle Ho, our people have been industrious, brave, shared joys and sorrows, united in thought and action, and overcome all hardships and challenges to achieve great achievements recognized and admired by the world.

From the mid-19th century to the mid-20th century, after nearly a hundred years of valiant and arduous struggles, our nation gained independence, and our people attained freedom. In the past eighty years, Vietnam has risen strongly from a country with more than two million people dying of starvation in 1945 to achieve remarkable development.

Looking back on the eighty-year history, we can proudly affirm that we have fulfilled the wishes of the martyrs and people who devoted themselves to the country. The struggle for peace, unity, independence, and prosperity has borne sweet fruits for all people. The Vietnamese people have truly become the masters of their destiny and the nation’s destiny.

Since the August Revolution in 1945, history has gloriously continued. The era of independence and freedom has been followed by an era of national unity, peace, and development and will be succeeded by an era of prosperity and richness.

Held in the atmosphere of the whole country looking forward to the 14th Congress of the Party with strong belief, spirit, and aspiration, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh believed that today’s conference is not only an opportunity to look back but also to affirm and promote the timeless values of a brilliant historical event. The eighty-year journey of independence, freedom, and happiness of Vietnam has become a glorious and proud historical flow.

With the participation of numerous experts, scientists, and practitioners, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh believed that the conference would contribute new perceptions of the significance and magnitude of the August Revolution, provide valuable scientific advice and suggestions, and draw great lessons for the cause of national construction and development in the era of national prosperity.

“The road ahead may be full of opportunities and challenges, but with the spirit and will of the past eighty years, our nation will surely overcome all difficulties and continue to advance on the path of building a peaceful, independent, democratic, prosperous, civilized, and happy country”, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh concluded.
