The once vibrant and bustling shopping icon of Ho Chi Minh City’s youth, Parkson Dong Khoi, has certainly seen its fair share of ups and downs. The news of Parkson Vietnam filing for bankruptcy in 2023 came as a shock to many, as the mall used to be a large and modern chain, catering to the sophisticated shopping, beauty, and entertainment needs of its patrons.

However, in the years leading up to 2023, Parkson Dong Khoi began to witness a noticeable decline. Major brands gradually vacated the premises, leaving behind only a handful of familiar labels interspersed with small kiosks and deserted sales areas. The once bustling space gradually became sparse, and even the CGV cinema on the 5th floor, which used to be a hotspot for the youth, ceased operations.

Against this backdrop, the arrival of UNIQLO and MUJI, two renowned Japanese brands, became a rare bright spot, infusing new life into the once-quiet shopping arena. Besides bringing back the buzz, these brands also helped the public and retailers alike recognize the untapped potential of this central district.

Today, the shopping mall on Dong Khoi Street is regaining its momentum. From the ground floor to the fourth floor, new brands have started to fill the spaces, offering visitors a more continuous and diverse shopping experience. The ground floor, in particular, resembles a modern mini-bazaar, showcasing a wide range of products, including clothing, luggage, and accessories.

Notably, the UNIQLO store, spanning from the ground floor to the third floor, attracts a large number of customers daily, mostly comprising young locals and international tourists. Meanwhile, the neighboring MUJI store maintains its appeal with a minimalist aesthetic and a diverse range of products, from stationery and cosmetics to food and household items.

Additionally, two other Japanese brands, Kohnan, which opened in 2023, and Nitori, which opened in 2025, specializing in home goods, have also made their presence known, further enriching the experience for consumers who appreciate modern and convenient lifestyles.

While the road to recovery is challenging, positive signs are emerging. The Dong Khoi shopping district, with its prime location in the heart of the city and the support of reputable international brands, is gradually reclaiming its place on Ho Chi Minh City’s shopping map.
