Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam) and Vietnam Petroleum Group (Petrolimex) have announced adjustments to the retail prices of gasoline products from 3:00 pm on August 14th. The new price for E10 gasoline is VND 19,660 per liter in Region 1 and VND 20,050 per liter in Region 2, a decrease of VND 170 per liter from the previous price.
With this adjustment, E10 gasoline is now VND 310 more expensive per liter than E5 gasoline but VND 220 cheaper per liter than RON95 gasoline.
This is the second time that the price of E10 gasoline has been adjusted since its launch in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Haiphong on August 1st. There has been one price increase and one decrease so far. When it was first introduced, the price of E10 gasoline was VND 19,600 per liter in Region 1 and VND 19,990 per liter in Region 2. On August 7th, the price was adjusted to VND 19,830 per liter in Region 1 and VND 20,220 per liter in Region 2.

According to Petrovietnam, in Hanoi and Haiphong, the six retail outlets have sold over 150 cubic meters of E10 gasoline, accounting for more than 16% of their total gasoline sales. Meanwhile, Petrolimex estimates that each retail outlet in Ho Chi Minh City sells approximately 4,500 liters (or 4.5 cubic meters) of E10 gasoline per day, double the amount sold during the initial launch. However, this volume is still significantly lower than the sales of RON95 gasoline, which stands at around 200,000 liters.
In preparation for the mandatory use of E10 gasoline from January 1, 2026, Petrovietnam is upgrading and modifying its E5 RON92 blending facilities at strategic warehouses nationwide to meet the future demand for E10 gasoline.
In August, Petrovietnam plans to blend and supply E10 RON95 gasoline to key partners and retailers in the central region of the country.
E10 is a type of biofuel that consists of 90% regular unleaded gasoline and 10% ethanol, a biofuel derived from renewable sources such as sugarcane, cassava, and corn. The high oxygen content in ethanol ensures a more complete combustion process, reducing harmful emissions of CO and HC by up to 20% compared to fossil fuels. This is considered a significant improvement in the context of air pollution and climate change.
As a result, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is studying and advising the government on a roadmap for the mandatory use of E10 gasoline, expected to be implemented from January 1, 2026.
Regarding supply, the Ministry of Industry and Trade stated that there are six ethanol production facilities in Vietnam. Two of them are currently operational in Dong Nai and Quang Nam provinces, with an annual production capacity of 100,000 cubic meters. If all six facilities become operational, the total production capacity will reach 500,000 cubic meters.
To ensure sufficient supply when the roadmap is implemented, an additional 1-1.5 million cubic meters of biofuel will be needed. The shortfall will be imported from foreign sources, with abundant supply available from countries such as the United States and Argentina.
