The first weir on the To Lich River nears completion.

After more than five months of construction, the first weir on the To Lich River in Thanh Liet Ward is nearing completion. This weir will help improve the river and prepare for water intake to revive the To Lich River.

The weir has the function of controlling water flow and maintaining stable water levels in the To Lich River. It also serves to supplement water and support the ecosystem along the riverbanks.

According to the Infrastructure and Agriculture Department, the construction of the weir began in mid-February 2025 and has now completed over 95% of the work. The main construction includes the weir body, regulation gates, pumping station, pedestrian bridge, and observation deck on the weir floor.

Regarding the observation deck, the Infrastructure and Agriculture Department shared that the architecture is designed in an octagonal shape, a symbolic design that promises to become a public viewing spot by the river. The octagonal house has eight concrete columns, a corrugated iron roof with tile patterns, and golden floral patterns, giving the structure a blend of ancient and modern styles. People can stand in the octagonal house to enjoy the scenery on both sides of the river.

On the completed weir foundation, workers have installed a stone balustrade around the observation deck using natural green stone.

Due to the significant slope of the To Lich River, with a height difference of about two meters from the beginning at Hoang Quoc Viet Road to the end at Thanh Liet, the amount of water supplemented into the river with low flow rates is not enough to create a flow and raise the water level along the entire length of the river. The construction of the weir aims to mitigate this limitation.

Hanoi’s Construction Department shared that the progress of the weir completion on the To Lich River at Quang Bridge in Hoang Liet Ward is expected to be finished by August 30. After that, the city will intake water from West Lake to create a flow, helping to create a flow on the To Lich River.

According to the Infrastructure and Agriculture Department, after the completion of the Thanh Liet weir, the city will continue with the construction of two other weirs at Dau Bridge and Cot Bridge. The construction of these two weirs is expected to start in the third quarter of 2025. Once the system of weirs on the To Lich River is completed, it will help to perfect the closed irrigation system along the entire river.
