On August 16, Vice Chairwoman of the People’s Committee of Dong Nai Province, Nguyen Thi Hoang, signed a document assigning the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to coordinate with relevant units to urgently implement 10 key tasks in the prevention and control of the African swine fever.

Dong Nai has detected 24 African swine fever outbreaks in 20 communes, resulting in the culling of over 4,100 pigs. Compared to the same period in 2024, the number of outbreaks increased by 187.5%, and the number of pig deaths and culling increased by over 718%.
The People’s Committee directs strict compliance with the declaration of the epidemic and the organization of epidemic prevention and control in accordance with regulations; mobilizing the entire political system to deploy epidemic prevention and control; rectifying and strictly handling the responsibilities of collectives and individuals in the communes who neglect their duties, resulting in widespread outbreaks, and having the thought of leaving the task entirely to the veterinary force.
At the same time, arrange funds and disinfectants to completely handle the outbreaks, and prevent new outbreaks; strictly handle cases of hiding the epidemic, delayed reporting, and causing the spread of the disease…
According to Nguyen Truong Giang, Head of the Department of Livestock and Fisheries of Dong Nai, the investigation of the outbreak and the search for the source of the disease showed that the cause of the outbreak could be due to farmers not implementing biosecurity measures in livestock farming; people and means of transport entering and exiting farms without disinfection. Especially, all investigated facilities used raw pork to make feed, and many facilities had pork washing water flowing into the farming area. The epidemic situation in some localities remains complicated in Phuoc Son commune and An Loc ward. Phuoc Son commune has African swine fever outbreaks in 6 households in 4 villages of the commune, with a total of 97 pigs culled, weighing nearly 5 tons.
An Loc ward has a total pig herd of more than 11,800, mainly small-scale household farming interspersed in residential areas. The ward has recorded 3 African swine fever outbreaks, with more than 2,100 pigs culled.
