Nhơn Trạch Bridge Opens to Traffic, Improving Transport Connectivity and Reducing Travel Times
As of 7 am on August 20th, the Nhon Trach Bridge officially opened to traffic, marking a significant milestone in the region’s infrastructure development. This new connection between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province not only improves transportation but also holds strategic importance for the Southeast region’s economic growth.

Nhon Trach Bridge officially opens for operations on August 20th
During the first phase, from now until the end of 2026, the Nhon Trach Bridge and its connecting roads will operate as a regular automobile road. On the Dong Nai side, there will be two lanes for cars and two mixed-use lanes leading up to the bridge. Notably, motorcycles will only be allowed up to Ly Tu Trong Street to prevent smaller vehicles from mixing with heavier traffic on the bridge. Three key intersections – DT.25B, DT.769, and Ly Tu Trong – will feature signal lights and signs for traffic control, ensuring smooth and safe passage.
As for Ho Chi Minh City-bound traffic, automobiles from the bridge will directly enter the HLD Highway. However, to maintain safety and prevent congestion during the initial phase, vehicles over 1.5 tons and passenger cars with more than 16 seats are temporarily restricted from using the bridge.
Previously, residents of Dong Nai, especially those in Nhon Trach, had to rely on the Cat Lai ferry or take the often-congested National Highway 51. The opening of the Nhon Trach Bridge provides a much-needed alternative route, significantly reducing travel times, especially during peak hours.

By the end of 2026, the bridge and its connecting roads will operate as a full-scale expressway with four lanes for motor vehicles and separate lanes for mixed traffic.
This new route also serves as a vital link for agricultural produce and goods from surrounding areas in Dong Nai and Ba Ria-Vung Tau, offering a more direct path to Ho Chi Minh City instead of solely depending on National Highway 51.
According to plans, by the end of 2026, the Nhon Trach Bridge and its connecting roads will be upgraded to a full-scale expressway. The entire route will feature four lanes for motor vehicles, along with separate lanes for mixed traffic. The bridge itself will have two lanes for motor vehicles, two mixed-use lanes, and a median barrier for added safety.
Upon completion of the second phase, this new expressway will significantly supplement and reduce the burden on the already congested HLD Highway, providing a much-needed alternative route between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai.
Beyond daily commuting needs, the Nhon Trach Bridge holds strategic importance in the Southeast region’s transportation planning. In the near future, it will serve as a critical link to the Long Thanh International Airport, offering a direct and faster option for travelers and businesses from Ho Chi Minh City, bypassing the often-congested National Highway 51.

With its opening, thousands of residents in Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City now have a faster and more cost-effective travel option. In the long run, when the entire route is upgraded to an expressway, the Nhon Trach Bridge will become a vital artery, contributing to the restructuring of eastern Ho Chi Minh City’s transportation network and reducing congestion on the Cat Lai ferry and the HLD Highway.
This event highlights the significant advancements in the region’s transportation infrastructure, not only meeting immediate travel needs but also laying the foundation for sustainable socio-economic development in the years to come.
