On August 20, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Vu Hong Thanh led a monitoring delegation of the National Assembly to work with Dong Nai provincial leaders on the implementation of National Assembly resolutions for key national projects and socio-economic development.
At the meeting, delegates discussed and exchanged views on the progress of the Long Thanh International Airport, Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway, Gia Nghia – Chon Thanh Expressway, Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway, and Ring Road 3 in Ho Chi Minh City.
Reporting to the delegation, Mr. Nguyen Tien Viet, Deputy General Director of the Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), said that the first runway package has basically completed the runway construction. The second runway is being expedited. The passenger terminal has completed its concrete structure, basements, and four floors, while the central steel roof has reached its final height. More than 95% of the terminal’s rough construction has been completed, and it is expected to be finished by August.
According to Mr. Viet, the flight inspection of the flight procedure has been successful. It is expected that on December 19, the first technical flight will take off from Noi Bai International Airport (Hanoi) and land on the runway at Long Thanh International Airport. The units are striving to make the airport commercially operational by the first half of 2026.

In 2026, Long Thanh International Airport is estimated to serve more than 20 million international passengers. Therefore, right after putting it into operation, ACV proposes to build the second passenger terminal of Long Thanh Airport immediately. The construction of the third runway is expected to start soon after the completion of the second runway.
Concluding the meeting, Vice Chairman Vu Hong Thanh assessed that the progress of the Gia Nghia – Chon Thanh Expressway project is very slow. He requested the People’s Committee of Dong Nai province to soon solve the site clearance for this project.
Regarding the Long Thanh International Airport project, Mr. Thanh appreciated the progress of the component projects. He suggested that Dong Nai soon solve the problem of stone supply for the project, speed up the progress of phase 1, and prepare for phase 2. The province needs to report to the National Assembly about the works that may directly affect the operation of the airport in phase 1 for timely handling.
On the issue of traffic connection to Long Thanh International Airport, Mr. Vu Hong Thanh requested Dong Nai and related units to soon complete the routes and overcome congestion.
According to Vice Chairman Vu Hong Thanh, if the traffic connection issue is not handled promptly, the operation of Long Thanh International Airport will be heavily affected.
