This morning (August 23), the Hanoi People’s Committee announced free rides on public transport (including buses and urban railways) for both locals and tourists, as part of the 80th National Day celebrations (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2025). Specifically, from August 30 to September 2, everyone can travel on the trains and buses free of charge. This initiative aims to facilitate easier movement for people to visit historical sites and join in the festivities, while also helping to reduce traffic congestion and pollution.

The Hanoi People’s Committee has instructed the Department of Construction to coordinate with the Hanoi Transport Operation and Management Center, the units providing public transport services with subsidized bus fares, and the Hanoi Railway Limited Company to implement this initiative effectively and safely. They will work together to meet the travel needs of residents and visitors, while also monitoring passenger numbers to adjust the frequency, number of trips, and operating hours accordingly.

Additionally, there will be strict control and accountability for the accuracy of the number of free tickets provided for settlement and finalization of subsidized fares in accordance with regulations.

The two urban railway lines, Cat Linh – Ha Dong and Nhon – Cau Giay, along with 128 subsidized bus routes, will offer completely free rides. For buses, passengers will still receive tickets with the route fare value but won’t have to pay. As for the urban railways, passengers will be issued paper tickets with the fare values as stipulated by Hanoi’s regulations, but they won’t incur any charges.

Additionally, passengers using monthly passes (both regular and preferential) and free tickets (either physical or virtual cards) will need to present them when using the services.

To cater to the travel needs of the public, the operating hours of the train lines in Hanoi will be adjusted. Specifically, on August 21, 24, 27, and 29, the trains will run from 5:30 AM to 12:00 AM. On August 30, the operating hours will be from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM. On September 1, the trains will run from 5:30 AM to 12:00 AM again. On the National Day itself, September 2, the trains will operate continuously from 12:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with intervals of 6 minutes during peak hours and 10 minutes during regular hours, and a brief 80-minute technical break.

For those using private vehicles, the city has arranged for parking at the premises of local wards and communes, educational institutions, and stadiums.

Previously, on August 20, the city announced the provision of free drinking water, dry food, and biscuits, along with rain and sun shelters, and free buses to transport people, especially the elderly, coming from other provinces to Hanoi for the celebration. Moreover, along the streets where the parade and procession will pass through, functional forces will ensure security and order, giving priority to positions for veterans, the elderly, women, and children.

The Hanoi authorities encourage residents to use public transport as many roads will be closed or have restricted access during the event.

According to the plan, rehearsals, preliminary and final reviews will take place on August 21, 24, and 30, before the official celebration, parade, and procession on September 2 at 6:30 AM in Hanoi.

Apart from witnessing the event in person, residents can also watch it on large outdoor screens. Hanoi will set up 22 screens at 18 public locations along three main routes. The Van Cao – Quan Ngua Stadium – Kim Ma – Nguyen Thai Hoc axis will have seven screens, while the Nguyen Thai Hoc – Trang Thi – Trang Tien – August Revolution Square axis will have six. The remaining screens will be placed at public locations and gateways to the capital, such as Long Bien, Hoa Binh, Cau Giay, Nguyen Trai, and the National Exhibition Center.

Additionally, 136 existing LED screens in agencies, schools, and stadiums, along with 127 socialized screens across the city, will be mobilized, with priority given to broadcasting time for propaganda and visual promotion.
