On August 20, the People’s Committee of Gia Lai province officially approved the task of master planning the Bien Ho – Chu Dang Ya tourist area, Gia Lai province by 2050, with a total research area of up to 6,300 hectares.

This will be a national tourist area, a key eco-cultural tourist area in the west of Gia Lai province. It aims to build an eco-tourism complex, an eco-urban area, and an experiential tourism destination that showcases the unique characteristics of the Central Highlands region and competes with international destinations.

The Bien Ho – Chu Dang Ya tourist area is located in Bien Ho ward and Thong Nhat ward, with Chu Man mountain range to the north, Ton Duc Thang street and provincial road 671 to the south, National Highway 14 to the west, and Nui Mot and Chu Man mountain range to the east.

In terms of spatial development orientation, the Bien Ho – Chu Dang Ya tourist area will develop functional areas, including the Bien Ho scenic area, important landscape areas, Chu Dang Ya volcano, tea hills, pine forests, residential areas, wild sunflower festivals associated with Chu Dang Ya volcano, and resort spaces, among others.

The planning cost is estimated at over VND 6.4 billion, and the planning project is expected to be completed within six months from the approval of the consulting firm through a bidding process. The Gia Lai Department of Construction is assigned as the responsible implementing unit.

Previously, in a report on July 19, the Provincial Department of Construction stated that the Bien Ho – Chu Dang Ya tourist area is located on the main tourist route of the Northern Central Highlands region, with an area of approximately 5,191 hectares. Bien Ho is a precious gem and a cultural symbol of Gia Lai province, while Chu Dang Ya is a dormant volcano that has been inactive for millions of years and is associated with the Chu Dang Ya wild sunflower festival.

Despite being recognized by the government as a potential national tourist area and connected to many tourist clusters within the province and the Central Highlands region, the Bien Ho – Chu Dang Ya tourist area still faces challenges such as a lack of synchronized investment in social infrastructure and technical infrastructure. Additionally, the water level in the north-northeast area is unstable, which could impact the development of tourism and urban areas on the ecosystem and, more specifically, the water source of Bien Ho.

According to the Provincial Department of Construction, the Bien Ho – Chu Dang Ya tourist area is expected to form five main subdivisions, including the Bien Ho tourism area (cultural and spiritual tourism), the Chu Dang Ya tourism and service urban subdivision, the Bien Ho tea tourism subdivision, the northern gate urban subdivision, and the Bien Ho eco-urban subdivision A.

Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee of Gia Lai, emphasized that the Bien Ho – Chu Dang Ya area is a particularly precious resource that requires long-term vision and careful calculation of transportation infrastructure. He also suggested expanding the conservation space to achieve sustainable development and finding investors with suitable ideas to facilitate quick implementation once the planning is completed.

The Chairman also proposed considering finding sponsors for the planning work to shorten the implementation time and better align with local practices and development needs.
