Heavy rains brought by Typhoon Kajiki (Typhoon No. 5) and its circulation caused severe flooding in Hanoi’s inner streets such as Nguyen Trai, Truong Chinh, Minh Khai, and Nguyen Xien from the night of the 25th to the morning of the 26th of August. The downpour led to deep water levels, making transportation difficult in these areas.
As of 7 am today, many streets in the Geleximco Le Trong Tan urban area and Nam An Khanh Urban Area (Hoai Duc) were still inundated.

Geleximco area heavily flooded at 5:26 am on August 26th.
According to residents in the area, the Nam An Khanh welcome gate is currently experiencing severe flooding.

In reality, the Nam An Khanh Urban Area (Hoai Duc, Hanoi) often faces flooding during heavy rains, becoming a nightmare for its residents. The inadequate drainage infrastructure means that a few hours of intense rainfall are enough to turn the inner roads into “rivers,” with high water levels disrupting transportation. Residents have to wade through the water, vehicles break down, and daily life is thrown into chaos. Many households also deal with water entering their first floors, damaging belongings and posing electrical safety hazards.

This area is considered a low-lying area in the west of Hanoi as it floods annually after heavy rains, with many sections turning into “islands.”

Facing this situation, in May 2025, the Hanoi People’s Committee approved the investment policy for the “Project on Construction of Sewage Collection and Treatment Plant in Nam An Khanh Area, Phase 1.”
The project aims to construct a synchronized sewage treatment system for the Nam An Khanh basin, including a semi-separate drainage system with well-separated and self-flowing sewers, pumping stations, and pressurized sewers. The treatment plant is designed to have a capacity of approximately 7,500 cubic meters per day by 2030, featuring odor control measures and energy-efficient processes. It will also be capable of treating septic tank sludge, with the treated sludge expected to reach a minimum dryness of 30% before landfill disposal.
The Hanoi People’s Committee has held the People’s Committee of Hoai Duc District accountable for the accuracy and legality of the information and data presented in the project proposal.
Despite the frequent flooding, real estate prices in the Nam An Khanh and Geleximco urban areas remain high, with linked houses and villas costing between 150 and 310 million VND per square meter.
