Final Decision: Four-Story Metro Station Beneath the Eastern Square of Hoan Kiem Lake

The recently approved plan for the C9 station (Hoan Kiem Lake) entails an underground construction beneath Dinh Tien Hoang Street, spanning the area across the square and the eastern park of Hoan Kiem Lake. The station will be strategically located near the Hanoi Council House and the People's Committee. This state-of-the-art station will boast four levels and encompass a total area of approximately 7,703 square meters.

On August 26th, the Hanoi People’s Committee issued Decision No. 4412 approving the route and location of the C8 to C10 stations on the Hanoi Urban Railway Project, Line 2, from Nam Thang Long to Tran Hung Dao, at a scale of 1/500.

The plan, formulated by the Hanoi Institute of Planning and Architecture and appraised by the Hanoi Department of Planning and Architecture, will be implemented in the wards of Hoan Kiem and Cua Nam in Hanoi.

The proposed route will feature parallel tunnels, transitioning to a stacked formation from Hang Duong Street to Hang Chieu Street. It will run underground through Hang Duong, Hang Ngang, Hang Dao, Hoan Kiem Lake, Dinh Tien Hoang Street, and Hang Bai Street.

Hoan Kiem Lake Station C9 Perspective

The left tunnel alignment, from Nam Thang Long to Tran Hung Dao, is defined by points B1, B2, C1, C2, C3, B3, B4, B5, and B6. The right tunnel alignment is determined by points N1, N2, C1, C2, C3, N3, N4, N5, and N6, with coordinates and technical parameters provided on the drawings (with points C1, C2, and C3 defining the stacked tunnel section).

The three main stations on this section include: C8 Station, which remains unchanged from the approved plan in 2014; C9 Station (Hoan Kiem Lake), constructed underground on Dinh Tien Hoang Street, spanning the area of the Square – Dong Ho Hoan Kiem Park, and the headquarters of the Hanoi People’s Committee, spanning four floors with a total area of approximately 7,703 square meters; and C10 Station (Tran Hung Dao Station): located at the intersection of Hang Bai and Tran Hung Dao Streets, spanning four floors with a total area of approximately 5,482 square meters. It will intersect with the S13 station of Line 3, facilitating future passenger transfers between the lines.

This route replaces the C8-C10 section approved in Decisions No. 2297/QD-UBND (2013) and 861/QD-UBND (2016). It also serves as a basis for updating and supplementing relevant detailed planning schemes.

The Hanoi People’s Committee has entrusted the Hanoi Department of Planning and Architecture with verifying the drawings and monitoring their implementation. The Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board is responsible for publicly disclosing the approved documents, establishing boundary and alignment markers, and ensuring land and construction management in accordance with the approved plan.
