This was a milestone for Rang Dong when it became the first lead-free glass manufacturer in Vietnam, operated by Rang Dong Lightbulb and Tube Joint-Stock Company (referred to as Rang Dong).

Soaring High Like Rang Dong

Eleven years after its establishment, Rang Dong Lightbulb and Tube Factory experienced a significant event: The factory was bombed by American planes in 1972. Despite their efforts to overcome this adversity, by 1987, Rang Dong was on the brink of bankruptcy!

More than five decades have passed since that incident, and Rang Dong has transformed. The leadership of Rang Dong Lightbulb and Tube Joint-Stock Company shared that the company is now soaring to new heights stronger than ever.

The company, which had the honor of receiving Uncle Ho’s visit in 1964, is striving to achieve a revenue of 13.2-13.75 thousand billion VND in 2025. They have set a new growth target of 20-25% for the period of 2025-2030. Furthermore, by 2030, Rang Dong aims to become one of the 100 Vietnamese enterprises with a revenue of USD 1 billion, leading the Smart Home supply chain in Vietnam.

Not only carrying a “billion-dollar aspiration,” but Rang Dong has also made significant strides on its journey of following Uncle Ho’s footsteps. One of their notable achievements is owning the first lead-free glass furnace in Vietnam in 2008, a “treasure” that helped Rang Dong conquer the international market.

Rang Dong’s Lead-Free Glass Furnace: A Capacity of 19 Tons/Day

Lead-free glass is a type of glass manufactured without the use of lead oxide (PbO) as a component to enhance its gloss and workability. Instead, this type of glass utilizes other metals such as potassium oxide and sodium oxide…

This material boasts superior characteristics such as high luminous efficiency, non-toxicity to users and production workers, environmental friendliness, excellent recyclability, reduced waste generation, and resource conservation.

Moreover, when Rang Dong commissioned Vietnam’s first lead-free glass furnace, it helped Vietnamese enterprises replace imported materials that cost millions of USD annually.

This marked a significant advancement in Vietnam’s glass manufacturing industry, signifying Rang Dong’s technological innovation and commitment to environmental protection.

After years of operation, Rang Dong’s lead-free glass furnace in Que Vo, Bac Ninh (formerly) achieved a capacity of at least 19 tons/day. This capacity sufficiently meets the raw material requirements for producing high-quality compact fluorescent lamps, replacing hazardous lead-containing glass.

Green Lead-Free Glass that Meets European Standards

Rang Dong’s lead-free glass is not only safe for humans but also extremely environmentally friendly and capable of conquering the international market as it meets the stringent standards of the European Union: RoHs (Restriction of Certain Hazardous Substances) for electrical and electronic equipment to protect human health and the environment.

To produce “green” products, it is only fitting that the manufacturing facility is also “green.” The construction of Rang Dong’s lead-free glass furnace was honored to be a part of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the Kyoto Protocol on reducing greenhouse gas emissions (such as CO2, CH4, N2O…).

To achieve this recognition, Rang Dong continuously applied technology to its lead-free glass furnace.

A significant milestone was reached in 2011 when Rang Dong became the first enterprise to implement a heating systemin a glass furnace in Vietnam (fully electric melting technology).

The outcomes were highly encouraging: A reduction in FO oil consumption from 250 to 145 kg/ton of glass, and a furnace capacity of 36 tons/day. This technology also cuts down 2,500 tons of CO2 emissions annually, contributing to environmental protection.

Additionally, the use of electric heating elements decreased fuel costs by 25-30%, resulting in savings of 7-8 billion VND in fuel costs annually.
