Petrovietnam Proposes Eco-Industrial Energy Center in Can Tho

On August 27, Chairman of the Can Tho People’s Committee, Tran Van Lau, chaired a meeting with the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam) to discuss the proposal for an “Eco-Industrial Energy Center in Can Tho.”

Mr. Nguyen Van Tu, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Institute (Petrovietnam), shared that the proposed center would comprise three main groups: Clean Energy Group (including a gas-power center and new energy center), Green Fertilizer and Chemical Industry Group (biomethanol, organic microbial fertilizers, and biological products), and Agricultural Products, Logistics, and Other Services Group.

Petrovietnam has suggested the O Mon and Nam Song Hau areas as potential sites for the project. With expected investments of 3.4 billion USD by 2030, the project is forecasted to generate 2.3 billion USD in annual revenue. By 2050, the investment is projected to reach 15 billion USD, with annual revenue of approximately 5.6 billion USD.

Chairman Tran Van Lau expressed the city’s eagerness to commence the project as soon as possible. He requested Petrovietnam to expedite the process and complete the research and proposal by September 15 to report to the city’s leaders.

Regarding the construction location, the Chairman mentioned that the O Mon Thermal Power Center and the Hau River Thermal Power Center are the most suitable sites as they are already zoned for energy-related land use.

“Can Tho city will accompany and support the group’s investment in the locality not only in this term but also in the future,” assured Chairman Tran Van Lau.
