Mercedes-Benz Vietnam (MBV) has received official notification from Duy Manh withdrawing his lawsuit, as announced in court on May 21st. As a result, MBV awaits the court’s final decision before releasing an official statement to the public.
MBV assures the public that they have handled the situation with utmost responsibility, striving to resolve the issue following proper procedures, transparency, and respect for legal processes.
The company reaffirms the findings of the independent investigation conducted by Mercedes-Benz AG (Germany) and the insurance company, which concluded that the incident was caused by external factors and not due to any technical faults in their product. This assessment also served as the basis for the insurance company’s approval of the customer’s compensation claim. The insurance company has fully compensated for the actual damages incurred during the incident according to the terms and conditions of the insurance policy.
MBV emphasizes that the independent investigation not only confirmed the conclusions of the Forensic Science Institute under the Ministry of Public Security but also provided detailed analyses and evaluations to identify the root cause of the incident.
“While vehicle incidents are never desirable, we deeply regret the challenging experiences our customer has faced. Moving forward, we remain committed to delivering quality products, listening to feedback, and continuously improving to ensure the best customer experience possible,” MBV stated in their press release, signaling a potential conclusion to the matter.
The lawsuit between singer Duy Manh and Mercedes-Benz Vietnam stemmed from a car fire incident on February 15, 2023, involving a Mercedes-Benz S450L Luxury valued at over VND 4.7 billion. The vehicle, purchased in August 2020 and still under warranty, suddenly caught fire while parked in a basement in Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City. Following the incident, the insurance company compensated Duy Manh with nearly VND 2.9 billion.
However, disagreeing with MBV’s conclusion that the fire was caused by rats chewing through electrical wires, the singer filed a lawsuit against the car manufacturer, seeking additional compensation of over VND 2.5 billion, including remaining damages and legal fees.
On May 21, 2025, just before the first trial at the People’s Court of Go Vap District, Duy Manh unexpectedly withdrew his lawsuit, stating that continuing the case was unnecessary. The court subsequently decided to discontinue the proceedings.
