The State Bank has just updated data on the total means of payment and customer deposits in the credit institution system.

Specifically, the total means of payment at the end of February 2025 reached more than 18,157 trillion VND, up 1.35% compared to the end of 2024.

Total customer deposits in the credit institution system reached more than 14,700 trillion VND, an increase of 106,520 billion VND compared to the previous month. However, compared to the end of 2024, deposits at banks decreased by nearly 3,900 billion VND, mainly due to seasonal factors for institutional customers.

Deposits of economic organizations at the end of February 2025 reached more than 7.36 million billion VND, a decrease of more than 305 thousand billion VND in the first two months of the year (equivalent to a decrease of 3.98%), including a decrease of 233 thousand billion VND in January and a decrease of more than 71.6 thousand billion VND in February.

In January and February, enterprises often need large amounts of capital to pay for wages, bonuses, and settle debts at the end of the year, or invest in business activities before the peak season. This leads to withdrawals from the banking system, especially for non-term or short-term deposits.

Meanwhile, customer deposits increased by more than 301 thousand billion VND in the first two months, equivalent to an increase of 4.26%. Specifically, deposits of this customer group increased by 123 thousand billion VND in January and by 178 thousand billion VND in February.

The increase in customer deposits in February also set a record high, marking 13 consecutive months of positive growth. According to some experts, the continuous increase in customer deposits reflects the cautious mentality of the people in the context of unpredictable investment channels. Despite the low deposit interest rates, banking remains an attractive option for individual customers.

According to the financial report for the first quarter of 2025, BIDV is the listed bank with the largest amount of deposits, reaching more than 1.97 million billion VND. This is followed by VietinBank (1.62 million billion VND), Vietcombank (1.5 million billion VND), and MB (over 722 thousand billion VND).

The private bank with the largest amount of deposits is currently Sacombank, with more than 585 thousand billion VND. VPBank ranks second with more than 552 thousand billion VND. In the first quarter of 2025, VPBank was the bank that attracted the most deposits, with a growth of more than 66.7 thousand billion VND, equivalent to a 13.7% increase.
