Vietnam’s wood and wood product exports reached an impressive $11.1 billion in the first eight months of 2025, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. This marks a 6.3% increase compared to the same period in 2024, despite challenges posed by natural disasters such as storms, floods, and landslides.

The ministry’s representative, Mr. Phung Duc Tien, shared that the estimated export value of wood and wood products in August 2025 reached $1.45 billion. The United States remains the largest consumer market for Vietnamese wood products, accounting for a 56% market share. Japan and China follow as significant importers, with respective market shares of 12.4% and 10.9%.
Compared to 2024, wood exports to the US, Japan, and China have seen notable changes, with a 10.3% increase to the US, a significant 24.3% surge in Japan, and a 12.9% decrease in China.
Among the top 15 export markets, Spain witnessed the highest growth rate of 37.4%, while China experienced the most significant decline of 12.9%.
In terms of production, Vietnam has made considerable progress in the first eight months. The area of new concentrated forest plantations is estimated at 184,100 hectares, a 17.8% increase. The area of tended forest plantations reached 485,800 hectares, a 4.1% rise, and the number of scattered forest trees planted increased by 2.7% to 60.4 million.
The country has also prioritized forest protection, with an estimated area of 11.9 million hectares under protection, a 1% increase. Timber production is estimated at nearly 15.5 million cubic meters, reflecting a 7.4% growth./.
