Unveiling the Masterminds: How a Youth Gang Pulled Off a $3 Million Crypto Heist

On September 12, according to information from the Hung Yen Provincial Police, the Criminal Police Department of Hung Yen Provincial Police (PC02) has just broken up a specialized case, arresting four people related to the robbery of 3 billion VND in cryptocurrency (USDT) from an individual in Da Nang.

The daring robbers

On September 11, the Investigation Agency of Hung Yen Provincial Police decided to initiate legal proceedings and arrest the above-mentioned suspects for “Robbery”.

According to the case file, on September 5, the Criminal Police Department received a report from Mr. Nguyen Van D. (born in 1992, residing in Da Nang) about being robbed of 3 billion VND in cryptocurrency (USDT with a 1:1 exchange rate to USD) by a group of strangers while conducting a transaction in Quang Hung commune, Hung Yen province, earlier that day.

Immediately upon receiving the report, the Hung Yen Provincial Police directed the Criminal Police Department to establish a specialized case.

The task force quickly identified four suspects: Ngo Xuan Thao (born in 1992, residing in Tien Hoa, Hung Yen); Nguyen Xuan Tung (born in 1987, residing in Doan Dao, Hung Yen); Nguyen Manh Hoan (born in 1990, residing in Ho Chi Minh City); and Bui Dinh Danh (born in 2008, residing in Doan Dao, Hung Yen). After committing the crime, they fled to different locations in Hung Yen, Hanoi, and Hai Phong.

Evidence seized from the crime

In the afternoon of September 6, just 48 hours after the crime, the Criminal Police Department mobilized its forces and simultaneously arrested the robbers. During the investigation, they confessed to their crimes.

The police conducted an emergency search of the criminals’ residences and seized 1.8 billion VND in cash, 2 cars, 5 mobile phones, and froze 5 bank accounts with a total amount of 1.19 billion VND.

The case is under further investigation.
