As of the closing session last night, early this morning on September 19th (Vietnam time), the price of Robusta coffee on the London exchange rose by 10-15 USD/ton for delivery in January, March, and May 2026.

Coffee Prices Rebound

The November 2025 contract, however, saw a slight decline of 3 USD/ton, settling at 4,447 USD/ton.

Arabica coffee prices on the New York exchange surged even higher, ranging from 0.68% to 0.38%. The December 2025 contract climbed by 110 USD/ton, reaching 8,400 USD/ton.

Today’s coffee market in Vietnam is expected to remain relatively stable. Prior to the London session yesterday, domestic coffee prices averaged 116,500 VND/kg, a decrease of 4,800 VND/kg, while the exchange rate dropped nearly double that amount.

The recent price fluctuations over the past two sessions are attributed to the U.S. Federal Reserve’s (FED) decision to cut interest rates by 0.25%, falling short of the anticipated 0.5%. The FED is expected to implement two more rate cuts by the end of the year.

Coffee Prices Skyrocket in the U.S.

In the U.S. market, a recent report revealed that coffee prices hit a record high of 19.56 USD/kg in August 2025, equivalent to 512,000 VND/kg, marking a 21% increase compared to the same period last year. This surpasses the previous record set in July 2025, which stood at approximately 485,000 VND/kg.

The primary cause is the U.S. imposition of a 50% retaliatory tariff on coffee imports from Brazil, the largest coffee supplier to the U.S.

This policy led to a 75% reduction in coffee imports from Brazil in August compared to the same period last year.

While alternative sources from Vietnam and Colombia have increased, they have yet to fully compensate for the gap left by Brazil. Experts warn that the pressure on retail coffee prices will become more evident in October and November 2025.

Given that two-thirds of American adults consume coffee daily, this price hike has widespread implications.

The Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (VICOFA) and several coffee enterprises recently conducted a trade promotion trip to the U.S. to promote Vietnamese coffee. Vietnamese coffee, predominantly Robusta, is significantly more affordable than Arabica, and the 20% retaliatory tariff from Vietnam could help alleviate the soaring coffee prices in the U.S.
