Railways Sell 22,000 Lunar New Year Train Tickets on First Day of Sales, September 20th

During the 2026 Bính Ngọ Lunar New Year, the railway sector will operate 55 train services daily, utilizing over 800 carriages and providing approximately 330,000 tickets for passengers.

According to statistics from Vietnam Railways Corporation, as of 12 p.m. today (September 20) – the first day of ticket sales for the 2026 Lunar New Year (Year of the Horse), approximately 22,000 Tet train tickets have been sold, generating revenue of 44 billion VND.

During the 2026 Lunar New Year period (from February 3 to March 8, 2026, corresponding to the 16th day of the 12th lunar month of the Year of the Dragon to the 20th day of the 1st lunar month of the Year of the Horse), the railway sector will operate 55 train sets daily, utilizing over 800 carriages and providing approximately 330,000 tickets for passengers.

The railway sector has also stipulated that each customer can book and purchase a maximum of 10 tickets for outbound travel and 10 tickets for return travel.

When passengers have purchased sleeper berths or seated tickets and request additional auxiliary seats for children (aged 6 to under 10), each adult passenger ticket can only be accompanied by one auxiliary child seat, which will share the same space as the adult on the train.

Passengers purchasing tickets well in advance (10 days or more) for journeys over 900km will receive discounts ranging from 5% to 15%; a 3% discount is applied to tickets for trains departing from Saigon Station on February 15, 2026 (28th day of the 12th lunar month) for journeys of 1,000km or more; discounts ranging from 2% to 12% are offered for group purchases of 11 tickets or more, varying based on quantity, purchase timing, and itinerary; a 5% discount is applied to return tickets for passengers purchasing round-trip tickets; and discounts ranging from 10% to 20% are available for students from universities, academies, colleges, and vocational training institutions.

The railway sector also advises passengers to purchase tickets directly from station systems and authorized ticket agents nationwide, to carry valid identification and documents proving eligibility for discounted tickets, and to avoid purchasing tickets from scalpers.
