At a historic event marking the 30th anniversary of normalized relations between Vietnam and the United States, Vietjet officially took delivery of its first Boeing 737-8 aircraft from an order of 200. The handover ceremony took place at Boeing’s facility in Seattle, Washington, attended by Vietnamese President Lương Cường and a high-level delegation.

According to a special correspondent from the Vietnam News Agency, on the morning of September 21st local time (evening of September 21st in Hanoi), President Lương Cường witnessed the handover, a significant milestone in bilateral trade and investment. This event not only reinforces the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the U.S. but also boosts bilateral trade and creates hundreds of thousands of jobs in America.

The Boeing 737-8 (also known as the Boeing 737 MAX 8) is part of the Boeing 737 MAX narrow-body aircraft series, designed to replace the older 737-800 model. It features more efficient engines, advanced winglets, a longer fuselage, and an enhanced interior, offering fuel savings, reduced noise, and improved passenger comfort.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vietjet’s Chairwoman, Dr. Nguyễn Thị Phương Thảo, highlighted the delivery as a pivotal moment in nearly a decade of collaboration between Vietjet and Boeing. She emphasized its significance as a new symbol of the Vietnam-U.S. relationship, reflecting aspirations to conquer the skies and benefit both nations’ economies and peoples.

Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, expressed pride in partnering with Vietjet, a leading innovative airline. She underscored the delivery as the beginning of further shipments, solidifying the strong partnership between Vietjet and Boeing and contributing to Vietnam-U.S. trade.

This handover marks a new milestone, not only for aviation but also as a testament to the growing bilateral relationship between the two nations. The first Boeing 737-8 from the 200-aircraft order will enable Vietjet to expand its network, launch new routes in Southeast Asia and beyond, and reinforce its position as a leading dynamic airline in the region.
