According to Phap Luat Plus, the official website of Báo Pháp Luật Việt Nam, on June 4th, authorities from Đông Hòa Hiệp ward in Cái Bè district, Tiền Giang province, revealed a recent incident involving a local rice business owner who fell victim to an online scam, resulting in a loss of over VND 420 billion. The police are currently investigating the matter.
Initial information from the police indicates that the victim, Ms. P.N.P.T., who owns a rice business in the An Thạnh industrial cluster (Đông Hòa Hiệp ward, Cái Bè district, Tiền Giang province), was lured into investing in online stocks. She made multiple transactions, transferring money to 11 different bank accounts.
The authorities have verified the victim’s statements and identified the transactions. The Tiền Giang Police Department’s Division of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention has sent a document to the State Bank’s branch in Region 13 (located in Tiền Giang) to coordinate with commercial banks and urgently freeze the balances of the aforementioned accounts to facilitate the investigation and handle the case in accordance with the law.
