This event followed another significant milestone in Vietnam-U.S. economic relations: the delivery of the first Boeing 737 MAX aircraft to Vietjet in Seattle. This marks the beginning of a $32 billion contract for 200 aircraft—one of the largest aviation deals between the two nations. The handover ceremony was witnessed by the President of Vietnam during his working visit to attend the United Nations General Assembly session.

In New York, the world’s most powerful financial hub, Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao met with Lynn Martin, the second female Chairman in the NYSE’s 300-year history.

During the meeting, Ms. Thao discussed the development of Vietnam’s capital market over the past 30 years, highlighting leading companies listed on the HOSE, such as Vietjet (VJC) and HDBank (HDB). She expressed her ambition to bring Vietnamese enterprises to the global stage, aiming for a presence on the NYSE to expand international capital raising and solidify Vietnam’s position on the global financial map.

“We will soon fly to the United States and are excited to explore capital-raising opportunities on the New York Stock Exchange—the world’s largest,” Ms. Thao emphasized. “This is not just the ambition of Vietjet and HDBank, but also the dream of many Vietnamese enterprises aspiring to global integration.”

NYSE Chairman Lynn Martin, representing a market managing approximately 2,400 companies with a combined market capitalization of nearly $29 trillion, affirmed readiness to support and share expertise with Vietnamese enterprises, including Vietjet and HDBank, in their pursuit of opportunities at the NYSE.

Currently, both Vietjet and HDBank are cornerstone stocks in the VN30 index, representing Vietnam’s leading companies in terms of market capitalization and liquidity. Their move to raise capital on the NYSE is seen as a strategic step and a crucial milestone in their sustainable development and international affirmation.

During her visit, the Vietjet Chairman participated in the closing bell ceremony on September 23rd (local time). Notably, the U.S. stock market had a positive trading session, closing with a 48-point gain.

The Vietnamese billionaire’s trip not only opens opportunities for specific enterprises but also enhances Vietnam’s image as a dynamic nation with a generation of entrepreneurs driven by global vision and ambition in the era of globalization.
