Sharp Decline in Unemployment Benefit Applications in Hanoi

Hanoi recorded 5,240 approved applications for unemployment benefits, with the 25-40 age group representing the highest proportion. According to the Hanoi Employment Services Center, unemployment insurance plays a crucial role in stabilizing the labor market and ensuring social security. This policy not only provides financial support to workers but also offers career counseling, job placement services, and vocational training to enhance skills, facilitating their re-entry into the workforce.

Specifically, women aged 25-40 and over 40 still constitute the majority of applicants for unemployment benefits. The 25-40 age group accounts for 64.77%, a 4.77% increase from the previous month, marking the highest rate. The over-40 age group represents 28% (a slight increase from 24% in July), indicating minimal fluctuations in unemployment among middle-aged workers.

In August 2025, the Hanoi Employment Services Center received 6,811 applications for unemployment insurance, a decrease of 262 cases compared to the previous month. The Department of Home Affairs approved benefits for 5,240 cases.

“The decline in unemployment insurance applications suggests that workers are becoming more cautious about changing jobs in the latter part of 2025,” stated Mr. Vu Quang Thanh, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Employment Services Center.
