VIDEO: Flooded Streets Paralyze Hanoi, Emergency Rescues Continue Through the Night

Heavy rainfall inundated large areas of Hanoi on September 30th. By the early hours of October 1st, water levels on Tran Thai Tong Street (Cau Giay District) remained high.

Floodwaters reached nearly 1 meter, causing most motorbikes and cars attempting to pass through to stall.

Mr. Hoang Van Bach reported his car had been submerged for over 5 hours, awaiting rescue. “Today, everywhere is flooded, making it extremely difficult and expensive to call for help. I was quoted 1 million VND to tow it to a garage.”

Dozens of vehicles, from cars to 16-seaters and buses, stalled while attempting to cross the flooded section of Tran Thai Tong Street.

A large bus attempted to cross but also broke down, emitting smoke.

“My car has been submerged since 7 PM, and I’ve been waiting for rescue for over an hour with no sign of help. Repairs after flooding can be extremely costly, potentially reaching tens of millions of dong. Since I just bought the car, I’m waiting to process the insurance claim properly,” shared Mr. The Hung (Ba Dinh).

Less severely affected vehicles were repaired on-site by mechanics.

Rescue teams worked tirelessly throughout the night.

Flooded motorbikes were rescued on the roadside, with costs ranging from 200,000 to 500,000 VND.

Long lines of vehicles remained stranded on the flooded section, afraid to proceed for fear of stalling.

Cars were temporarily parked at intersections, awaiting the floodwaters to recede.
