The Ministry of Home Affairs has submitted a proposal to the Prime Minister regarding the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays for 2026, applicable to civil servants, public employees, and laborers.

For civil servants and public employees, the Ministry suggests a 9-day Lunar New Year holiday in 2026, comprising 5 days as per the Labor Law and 4 weekend days.

Specifically, this group will enjoy the Lunar New Year holiday from Saturday, February 14, 2026 (27th day of the 12th lunar month, Year of the Snake) to Sunday, February 22, 2026 (6th day of the 1st lunar month, Year of the Horse).

For laborers, employers are advised to arrange the Lunar New Year holiday based on actual conditions and the holiday schedule for civil servants and public employees.

The Ministry recommends that businesses choose either 1 day at the end of the Year of the Snake and 4 days at the start of the Year of the Horse, or 2 days at the end of the Year of the Snake and 3 days at the start of the Year of the Horse, or 3 days at the end of the Year of the Snake and 2 days at the start of the Year of the Horse.

In addition to the 9-day Lunar New Year holiday, the Ministry proposes a 5-day National Day holiday for civil servants and public employees in 2026.

The Ministry also outlines the National Day holiday for 2026. It includes September 2, 2026, and the preceding day, September 1, 2026, with a shift from Monday, August 31, 2026, to the weekend day of Saturday, August 22, 2026.

Civil servants and public employees will observe the National Day holiday from Saturday, August 29, 2026, to Wednesday, September 2, 2026, totaling 5 days (2 National Day holidays, 2 weekend days, and 1 shifted weekend day).

For laborers, employers may grant a 2-day National Day holiday in 2026, including September 2 and either the day before or after.

The Ministry emphasizes that businesses must notify employees of the Lunar New Year and National Day holiday plans at least 30 days in advance.

It encourages employers to align laborer holidays with those of civil servants and public employees and to consider more favorable arrangements for laborers.

Other 2026 holidays remain as per the Labor Code: New Year’s Day (January 1), Hung Kings Commemoration Day (April 26, with a compensatory day off on April 27), and the combined Southern Liberation Day and International Labor Day (April 30 to May 3, 2026).
