Launched in Vietnam in mid-September, the Yamaha PG-1 2025 has quickly become the most sought-after motorcycle in the market. This is evident as dealerships are selling the bike at prices higher than the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP).

A survey of several dealerships in Ho Chi Minh City reveals that the premium and limited editions of the PG-1 2025 are being offered at prices ranging from 38 to 39 million VND. Compared to the MSRP of 34,464 and 34,855 million VND, these versions are priced approximately 4 million VND higher.

One dealership even quoted a price of 39.5 million VND for the Yamaha PG-1 in Camo Green. Currently, dealerships do not have the bike in stock. Customers are required to place a deposit of around 1 million VND to secure a spot on the waiting list for October delivery.

The standard version, with an MSRP of 30,928 million VND, has seen less price inflation, with dealerships quoting prices between 31.5 and 32 million VND. The price difference hovers around 1-1.5 million VND, as this version does not offer significant upgrades over its predecessor.

In contrast, the premium versions come equipped with ABS, considered the most notable upgrade in the 2025 model. Additionally, these versions feature an LCD speedometer, replacing the traditional analog design.

Both Premium and Limited editions are equipped with front-wheel ABS.

At the time of launch, with limited supply, customers have two options: pay a premium to get the bike sooner or wait patiently until the supply stabilizes and prices return closer to the MSRP.

This “price gouging” phenomenon at dealerships is not new for the Yamaha PG-1. When it was first introduced to the Vietnamese market in late 2023, the underbone bike saw price increases of 1-3 million VND, with peaks reaching 10 million VND above the MSRP.

The price inflation of the previous Yamaha PG-1 model persisted for several months, only subsiding in mid-2024 when supply became more abundant. Among Yamaha Vietnam’s product lineup, the PG-1 is one of the few motorcycles to have experienced such price hikes above the MSRP.

This also reflects the strong appeal of the Japanese underbone bike in the Vietnamese market. The Yamaha PG-1 boasts a distinctive design, similar to the Honda CT125, but at a more accessible price point due to local assembly.

This model is particularly popular among young customers and those seeking a bike with a rugged, customizable, and highly personalizable nature.
