On the morning of October 3rd, as part of the “Innovation Day combined with the 2025 Vietnam International Innovation Exhibition,” the forum “Unlocking Vietnam-France Innovation Potential: Lessons from Nobel Laureate Serge Haroche” took place.

The forum was organized by the National Innovation Center (NIC) under the guidance of the Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with the French Embassy in Vietnam and the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE).

The event aimed to concretize Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024, issued by the Politburo on promoting the development of science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation. It also implemented Decision No. 1131/QĐ-TTg dated June 12, 2025, by the Prime Minister regarding the List of Strategic Technologies and Products.

According to Decision No. 1131/QĐ-TTg, quantum technology is identified as one of the 11 strategic technology groups in Vietnam. During the panel session, Associate Professor Dinh Trung Hoa, a member of the Innovation Network and a quantum technology expert, shared insights on this technology.

Assoc. Prof. Hoa noted that in business, every enterprise faces unique challenges, from optimizing production lines and energy savings to enhancing operational efficiency. However, many complex issues cannot be fully resolved with traditional computing technology.

This is where quantum computing steps in. “Quantum technology makes everything faster,” said Mr. Hoa. He provided examples of quantum’s superior processing capabilities in areas like information security (e.g., RSA protocols and cybersecurity issues). He mentioned that major U.S. companies have invested significantly in quantum computing research and development.

According to Mr. Hoa, quantum technology in Vietnam is still in its infancy. Over the past two days, many students have told him this was their first time hearing the term. This indicates that awareness of quantum technology remains at an early stage.

Drawing a parallel with AI, the expert noted that five years ago, few people knew what artificial intelligence was. Today, AI has become a common concept, and in the U.S., many basic, simple jobs have disappeared due to AI integration in business and production.

“Similarly, in the next 5–10 years, quantum technology will take center stage. Every enterprise, especially large ones, will recognize quantum technology as a key future solution,” Assoc. Prof. Dinh Trung Hoa predicted.

He emphasized that quantum technology will not replace AI but will enhance it by making processes faster. This synergy will enable us to tackle complex issues in transportation and across various industries and scientific fields.
