Vietnam Welcomes 15.4 Million International Visitors, Travel Revenue Surges Over 20%

In the first nine months of 2025, Vietnam witnessed a remarkable recovery and unprecedented growth in its tourism and service sectors, generating a positive ripple effect on domestic retail sales.

Thanks to favorable visa policies, robust promotional efforts, and significant national holiday celebrations, Vietnam welcomed over 15.4 million international visitors in the first nine months of 2025, marking an impressive 21.5% increase compared to the same period last year.

The majority of tourists (85.2%) opted for air travel, with 13.1 million arrivals, up by 21.9%. Arrivals by road and sea also saw substantial growth, reaching 2.1 million (up 19.4%) and 190.6 thousand (up 15.1%), respectively.

National holiday celebrations emerged as a major draw, with September alone recording 1.5 million international visitors, a 19.5% increase year-over-year.

The surge in tourism has significantly boosted the transportation sector, particularly during the National Day festivities. Total passenger transport in the first nine months exceeded 4.5 billion trips, up 22.6% year-over-year, with domestic transport rising by 22.6% and international transport by 11.3%.

The influx of tourists has also spurred notable growth in retail and service revenues. Retail sales of goods reached nearly 5.18 quadrillion VND, up 9.5% year-over-year, with food and essentials—key to tourism and services—seeing the highest increase at 10.3%.

Major tourism hubs reported significant retail growth: Da Nang (9.4%), Can Tho (8.8%), Hanoi (8.4%), and Ho Chi Minh City (8.3%), mirroring the rise in tourist numbers in these areas.

Notably, accommodation and food service revenues surged by 14.8%, totaling over 624 trillion VND, while travel agency revenues skyrocketed by 20.5%, reaching nearly 70 trillion VND. Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, top destinations for international visitors, saw remarkable growth in accommodation and food services, at 18% and 18.1%, respectively.
