On the afternoon of October 6th, during a press conference held by the Ministry of Public Security, Senior Lieutenant Colonel Vũ Thanh Tùng, Deputy Director of the Police Department for Investigating Corruption, Economic, and Smuggling Crimes (C03), announced that the Investigation Police Agency of the Ministry of Public Security had pressed charges against Ms. Phan Thị Mỹ Thanh (60 years old, originally from the former Bình Dương province) for the crime of Bribery.

Additionally, the Investigation Police Agency of the Ministry of Public Security has also pressed charges against seven other suspects. These individuals are alleged to have committed violations in a case involving FreeLand Joint Stock Company (Ho Chi Minh City).

Ms. Phan Thị Mỹ Thanh has held numerous significant positions, including Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Đồng Nai Province, Secretary of the Nhơn Trạch District Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Đồng Nai Province, Deputy Secretary of the Đồng Nai Provincial Party Committee, and Head of the Đồng Nai Provincial Delegation to the 14th National Assembly.
During her tenure, Ms. Thanh was reprimanded by the Central Inspection Commission for violating regulations on anti-corruption.
In May 2018, the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat decided to remove Ms. Phan Thị Mỹ Thanh from all Party positions. Subsequently, in May 2018, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly issued a resolution to terminate her position as a National Assembly delegate.
In December 2018, she was transferred to work at the Fatherland Front Committee of Đồng Nai Province.
