Project Perspective

After over 2 years of construction, the Phuoc An Bridge project spanning the Thi Vai River, connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Dong Nai, has completed several critical components. Currently, the project has entered the stage of tensioning the stay cables at the two main towers, which feature the largest span in Southeast Asia.

Previously, on September 4, the Provincial Traffic Project Management Board and the Agricultural Sector of Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province, under the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, collaborated with the representative of the contractor consortium, Trung Nam Construction and Installation Joint Stock Company (Trungnam E&C – a member of Trungnam Group), and related units to organize the first stay cable tensioning ceremony for the Phuoc An Bridge project.

The Phuoc An Bridge is a key national transportation infrastructure project, directly connecting the Cai Mep – Thi Vai Port area (Ho Chi Minh City) with the Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway (Dong Nai).

Upon completion, the project will shorten the transportation distance of goods to the Mekong Delta by nearly 30km, significantly reducing pressure on National Highway 51. It will also enhance the national logistics system and boost regional economic development.

The Phuoc An Bridge project has a total length of over 4.7 km, including a 3.5 km bridge section, a 247m access road, a 617m connecting road to the Phuoc An Port, and the completion of the intersection area with the port access road.

The main bridge spans over 1 km, with the main span between the two towers reaching 250m, the largest in Southeast Asia to date.

The main bridge is designed with a width of 27m, and the approach bridges are 23.5m wide, accommodating 6 lanes, including 4 motorized lanes and 2 mixed lanes, with a design speed of 70 km/h.

The project ensures a clear navigation height for ships with a capacity of 30,000 DWT, featuring a width of 135m and a clearance of 55m, the highest in Vietnam, meeting international navigation standards.

The Phuoc An Bridge, along with the Binh Khanh Bridge in the Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway project, is among the bridges with the highest navigation clearance in Vietnam.

The total investment for the project is approximately 4.879 trillion VND, with construction commencing in June 2023.

The Cai Mep – Thi Vai Port Area Traffic Project Management Board (the investor of the Phuoc An Bridge project) stated that contractors are deploying multiple work fronts to complete the two main span towers.

As of mid-April 2025, the project has completed over 60% of the construction volume and is expected to finish 6 months ahead of schedule, by the end of 2026 (originally scheduled for May 2027).

The most critical package of the project is Package 39, which involves the construction of the main bridge from Pier T37 to Pier T40, including water traffic regulation measures, currently completing nearly 62% of the construction value.

This package is undertaken by the consortium of Trung Nam Construction and Installation Joint Stock Company and Trung Chinh Construction and Trading Company Limited, with a total contract value of over 1.803 trillion VND.

Trung Nam Construction and Installation Joint Stock Company (Trung Nam E&C) is a member of Trung Nam Group, a large private multi-sector corporation in Vietnam operating in 5 fields: Energy, Infrastructure – Construction, Real Estate, and Information Technology Industry.

Established on May 23, 2008, Trung Nam E&C has participated in the construction of numerous key projects nationwide, including the Dong Nai 2 Hydropower Plant (70 MW, 1.760 trillion VND); Krong No 2&3 Hydropower Plant (1.230 trillion VND); Bac Ai Pumped Storage Hydropower Plant (5.401 trillion VND); Ninh Thuan Wind Power Plant (1.420 trillion VND); Trung Nam 11-story Building; Golden Hills Project (2.992 trillion VND); Da Nang High-Tech Park (954 trillion VND); Hue Intersection Overpass (922 trillion VND); Piers T29, T30, T31, and the main cable-stayed girder of Bach Dang Bridge – Hai Phong (1.409 trillion VND); 7 packages of the Ho Chi Minh City Phase 1 Tidal Flood Control Project (6.564 trillion VND), among others.

Trung Chinh, established in 2007, is one of the leading traffic construction and development companies. By 2017, Trung Chinh’s revenue reached approximately 2.000 trillion VND.

Trung Chinh has participated in the construction of various transportation projects, including Bach Dang Bridge; Hao Hao Bridge, Thanh Hoa; Hoang Van Thu Bridge, Hai Phong; Package 3B of the Da Nang – Quang Ngai Expressway; Bridge B1-01 of the Hanoi – Hai Phong Expressway; Bridge B1-03 of the Hanoi – Hai Phong Expressway; Package EX1A of the Hanoi – Hai Phong Expressway, and more.
