Hau was a sales representative for ADC Co., Ltd. (specializing in the production of plant protection drugs and agricultural chemicals). He was assigned to manage customer relationships, implement sales policies, process orders, and collect outstanding debts from agents in Long Xuyen City, Cho Moi District, and Chau Thanh District, An Giang Province.

According to initial reports, due to losses in agricultural supply sales, Hau needed funds to pay off debts and invest in cryptocurrency. From August 2022 to April 2023, he exploited his position to collect over 2 billion VND from agents. Instead of remitting this amount to the company, Hau embezzled the funds for personal use.

After committing the offense, Hau resigned without notice and fled his residence.
