Construction of the water treatment plant and clean water supply system for the people of Huong Khe town and eight surrounding communes commenced in February 2020 at the headwaters of the Tiêm River, Phu Gia commune, Huong Khe district.

The project, with a total investment of nearly VND 230 billion, is managed by the People’s Committee of Huong Khe district.

The plant is designed with a capacity of 9,000 cubic meters per day (phase 1) and will increase to 13,700 cubic meters per day in phase 2. The infrastructure includes a headworks system with one grade-1 pump station, one grade-2 pump station, and a treatment plant. The water supply pipeline system is over 210 kilometers long.

The project was expected to be completed by June 2022. By 2030, the plant is projected to supply water to over 57,000 people.

However, the project has faced significant delays, resulting in two extensions, with the latest deadline set for September 2023.

Unfortunately, as of now, the project remains unfinished. While awaiting the completion of the treatment plant, the local population relies mainly on water from hand-dug wells for their daily needs.

Recently, the People’s Committee of Ha Tinh province issued a document to the Department of Home Affairs, the Department of Construction, and the People’s Committee of Huong Khe district regarding the responsibility for the delayed progress of the water treatment plant and clean water supply system project.

Specifically, the Ha Tinh provincial leaders requested that the People’s Committee of Huong Khe district organize a thorough and serious inspection, accurately identifying individuals and organizations responsible for the delays in implementing the above project and imposing strict handling accordingly or reporting to competent authorities for further handling.
