According to reports from Mark Gurman (Bloomberg) and Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple’s highly anticipated foldable iPhone is rumored to feature a book-style fold design, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold and other Android foldables. When closed, the device will measure approximately 5.5 inches, resembling a compact iPhone Mini, and when unfolded, it will expand to a 7.8-inch display, rivaling the size of an iPad mini.
Samsung Display is expected to be the primary supplier of the foldable screens, with plans to produce 7 to 8 million units for Apple by 2026. A standout feature of this foldable iPhone is its hinge mechanism, designed to eliminate the visible crease—a challenge yet to be fully resolved by competitors. The device is rumored to be ultra-slim, measuring just 4.5 mm when open and 9-9.5 mm when folded.

The foldable iPhone is expected to feature a book-style fold design, opening to reveal a large internal display.
Another notable change is Apple’s potential shift from Face ID to an under-display Touch ID, paired with a hidden front camera, creating a seamless screen experience. Additionally, Apple is developing its own mobile modem, reducing reliance on Qualcomm and offering greater control over connectivity performance and user experience. The return of Touch ID is a highly anticipated feature, especially among premium iPhone users.
Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that Foxconn will begin production of the foldable iPhone in late Q3 or early Q4 of this year, around September or October. However, the device is not expected to launch until fall 2026, alongside the iPhone 18 series, meaning consumers will have to wait at least another year and a half.
Priced between $2,000 and $2,500 (approximately 52.7 to 65.8 million VND), the foldable iPhone will target high-end users seeking a premium, iconic device rather than mass-market appeal. Apple is projected to produce 15 to 20 million units, sufficient for sales over two to three years.

Apple may replace Face ID with under-display Touch ID and a hidden front camera for its foldable iPhone.
While the production timeline is becoming clearer, experts caution that details could change at any moment, as Apple is known for maintaining secrecy until official product launches. The foldable iPhone’s arrival is poised to revolutionize the premium smartphone market, reigniting competition with rivals like Samsung and setting a new benchmark for innovation.
