On October 5th, at Vinh Nghiem Pagoda (District 12, Ho Chi Minh City), entrepreneur Phan Thi Mai, CEO of Mailisa Beauty System, with the Dharma name Tam Huong, celebrated her birthday in a unique way. Instead of a lavish party, she chose the serene setting of the pagoda to focus on community service. Rather than receiving gifts, she dedicated the entire event to charity, spreading the message “A Birthday to Share – Service Brings Happiness.”

The event was attended by over 100 monks, thousands of Mailisa employees, and numerous friends and family members. Amidst the resonant sound of the temple bells, everyone participated in the recitation of the Medicine Buddha Sutra and listened to a Dharma talk on filial piety delivered by Venerable Thich Giac Dung. The sight of the Mailisa team in blue robes singing Buddhist hymns created a sacred atmosphere, a stark contrast to typical birthday celebrations under the glare of stage lights.

The Tam Huong – Phuc Thien Buddhist family, along with the Mailisa team, pledged to build 16 charity houses worth 1.12 billion VND in various locations: 7 in District 12, Ho Chi Minh City; 3 in Thanh Hoa City; 3 in Vinh, Nghe An; and 3 in Ha Tinh City. Additionally, the Buddhist family supported underprivileged children in these areas, ensuring they have joy and the means to study diligently, with a total value of 220 million VND.

Spreading Love on a Birthday

The highlight of the event was the tangible and meaningful charitable activities. Phan Thi Mai donated 16 charity houses to families in need and provided hundreds of millions in scholarships to underprivileged students, supporting their educational journey.

In her heartfelt speech, she shared: “A birthday is not just about oneself; it’s an opportunity to sow seeds of kindness, to share and serve. True happiness lies not in receiving, but in giving and benefiting the community.”
