At the National Conference for Outstanding Businesses and Entrepreneurs on Vietnam Entrepreneurs’ Day, Nguyen Anh Tuan, CEO of Vietnam Electricity (EVN), emphasized that electricity is the lifeblood of the economy, essential for socio-economic development and national security.

Since the Third National Party Congress in 1960, the principle of “Electricity Leads the Way” has guided Vietnam’s power sector. Over 70 years, under the leadership of the Party and State, EVN has expanded its power generation and grid infrastructure nationwide, from lowlands to highlands, and from the mainland to islands.

According to Nguyen Anh Tuan, Vietnam’s power industry has made remarkable strides, from self-sufficiency in electricity production to deeper regional energy integration. Key metrics such as power supply reliability, energy losses, and access to electricity rank among the best in ASEAN, showcasing Vietnam’s leadership in the region.

In recent years, EVN has focused on key projects under Power Development Plan VIII, including traditional power plants, renewable energy, offshore wind, and energy storage. Simultaneously, the grid is being modernized to create a smart, highly automated transmission system. The record-breaking completion of the 500kV Quang Trach – Pho Noi transmission line was hailed by Tuan as “a new milestone for Vietnam’s power sector.”

In technology, EVN has pioneered digital transformation and automation. Currently, 100% of 110kV substations and 82% of 220kV substations are remotely controlled, requiring no on-site personnel; 100% of electricity services are available online. EVN is also the only Southeast Asian company manufacturing 500kV transformers, moving toward mastering high-tech equipment to reduce imports.

Nguyen Anh Tuan affirmed that Resolution 70-NQ/TW of the Politburo on the National Energy Development Strategy by 2030, with a vision to 2045, identifies energy development as a top priority and the foundation for sustainable growth.

“The challenges ahead for the power sector are immense. However, with our tradition of resilience and innovation, EVN is committed to finding solutions to fulfill all tasks assigned by the Party and Government, ensuring a stable power supply for national development,” he stressed.

With a long-term vision, the EVN leader stated: “EVN is setting ambitious goals to become a global powerhouse by 2030, competing with the world’s largest corporations. We will continue to innovate, modernize governance, master technology, and drive digital transformation to enhance service quality and sustainable development, aiming for the top 3 in ASEAN and entering the Fortune Global 500 by 2030 with government support.”
