Phú Quốc: The Ultimate Year-End Getaway for Russian and CIS Travelers to Vietnam

This year, a wave of direct and charter flights from major Russian and CIS cities will take off for Phu Quoc, promising a surge in international visitors to the "Pearl Island." This influx comes on the heels of Phu Quoc being crowned Asia's most beautiful island by Condé Nast Traveler.

From mid-October 2025 to April 2026, Phu Quoc will welcome a series of flights from Russia and CIS countries, driven by a surge in travel demand from these markets. Charter flights operated by Anex Tour Vietnam, in partnership with Azur Air and Vietjet Air, will depart from 14 cities in Russia and the CIS, with a frequency of 75-80 flights per month. Notably, the route from Moscow to Phu Quoc will be reinstated.

Anex Vietnam’s charter program alone is expected to bring 600,000 Russian and CIS tourists to Phu Quoc during this period, occupying 1,200 to 1,500 hotel rooms daily. On average, visitors from these countries will stay for over 10 nights on the island.

Year-end peak season for Russian and CIS tourists in Phu Quoc

Positive indicators suggest a 30-35% increase in visitors from Russia and the CIS compared to last year. Data from Phu Quoc International Airport also shows a significant rise in air traffic from Russia, with a 300% increase in passengers compared to the same period last year.

This growth is attributed to Russian travelers’ preference for extended vacations in warm Southeast Asian destinations to escape the cold. While Bali and Phuket were previously popular, Phu Quoc has emerged as a fresh and exciting choice, bolstered by its growing international brand recognition over the past two years.

Phu Quoc’s stunning beaches, such as Bai Kem, have earned international acclaim through prestigious awards

International recognition has further solidified Phu Quoc’s rising fame. Recently, CN Traveler (USA) ranked Phu Quoc as Asia’s most beautiful island and among the top three globally. Forbes Italia hailed it as “Asia’s new luxury destination,” while Singapore’s Straits Times dubbed it “Vietnam’s paradise island.” This acclaim has attracted a substantial influx of visitors, with nearly 980,000 international tourists from January to July 2025, a 74% increase from 2024, according to Travel and Tour World.

Beyond its tropical allure, Phu Quoc offers a world-class tourism ecosystem in the southern part of the island, featuring unique experiences: luxury resorts on Bai Kem, the world’s longest three-rope cable car to Hon Thom Island, the Guinness World Record-holding Kiss of the Sea show, and nightly fireworks at Sunset Town. This diverse range of activities ensures Russian visitors, who favor long stays, always have something to enjoy.

Phan Dang Anh, Deputy General Director of Anex Vietnam, stated, “With its pleasant tropical climate and convenient flight connections, Phu Quoc perfectly meets the needs of Russian travelers seeking refuge from winter. Additionally, Russians appreciate the safety and friendliness of Phu Quoc, making them feel welcome and comfortable. The expanded charter flights for winter 2025-2026 will not only boost international arrivals but also promote Vietnam as a destination, fostering trade and tourism while cementing Phu Quoc’s status as a premier regional resort hub.”

The economic benefits from Russian and CIS tourists are expected to grow further in the long term. Increased visitor numbers will stimulate economic activity in accommodation, transportation, and related sectors, encouraging hotels, resorts, and entertainment venues to meet rising demand. Phu Quoc is also actively enhancing its infrastructure and maintaining high tourism and service standards to sustainably accommodate more visitors.

Phu Quoc aims to set a new record for international visitors this year-end

In addition to new routes from Russia and the CIS, AirAsia Cambodia will launch a direct flight from Siem Reap (Cambodia) to Phu Quoc starting December 17, 2025, with three weekly flights, as reported by Khmer Times.

“This new route will not only boost tourism but also foster cultural exchange and economic growth between the two countries. In just one hour, travelers can experience both the enchanting beaches of Phu Quoc and the iconic Angkor Wat, making regional travel more accessible and efficient,” said Nam Vissoth, CEO of AirAsia Cambodia, in Khmer Times.
