Historic Milestone and the Value Behind the Numbers

Vietnam’s automotive market has witnessed a historic milestone following VinFast’s announcement of its September 2025 sales figures. In September 2025 alone, VinFast sold 13,914 electric vehicles, bringing the total cumulative sales from the beginning of the year to the end of Q3 to 103,884 units.

“Vietnam’s automotive market has seen periods of explosive growth, but reaching 100,000 vehicles in a single year is unprecedented. What’s truly remarkable is that VinFast achieved this in just nine months,” said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Đàm Hoàng Phúc, Director of the Automotive Engineering Training Program at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, expressing his surprise at the news.

During the hottest growth phases, when foreign car brands dominated the Vietnamese market, Toyota’s annual sales peaked at just over 91,000 units—a figure achieved over a full 12 months. In contrast, VinFast surpassed this number in just nine months.

“For years, the 100,000-unit milestone was merely a dream for traditional gasoline car manufacturers. Now, VinFast has conquered it. Clearly, Made-in-Vietnam electric vehicles are not only leading in sales, surpassing foreign brands, but also pioneering positive disruptions in Vietnam’s automotive market,” added Assoc. Prof. Dr. Đàm Hoàng Phúc.

He highlighted a significant point: all 100,000 vehicles sold are electric, meaning “100,000 Vietnamese consumers have said no to emissions and urban pollution” in just the first three quarters of 2025. This is particularly meaningful given the worsening environmental pollution, which has become a “silent killer” claiming millions of lives annually.

He emphasized that transportation is one of the largest sources of emissions. Therefore, having over 100,000 electric vehicles on the road will create a positive environmental impact and community-wide ripple effect. “VinFast’s pioneering efforts for a greener future have been met with explosive acceptance. This is a long-term social benefit that transcends mere numbers,” he stated.

Breaking Barriers, Bringing Electric Vehicles Closer to Consumers

Reflecting on VinFast’s record-breaking figures, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lý Hùng Anh of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, a member of the ASEAN NCAP Technical Council, noted that VinFast has successfully shifted Vietnamese consumers toward more sustainable transportation choices.

He attributed this success to VinFast’s efforts in eliminating barriers between consumers and electric vehicles. Beyond competitive pricing, VinFast has introduced comprehensive policies benefiting users, including additional price discounts, free charging, trade-in programs for gasoline cars, installment support, and test-drive events.

Another significant barrier addressed by VinFast is the service network and charging infrastructure. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lý Hùng Anh highlighted the 150,000 fast-charging ports across 34 provinces and cities, ensuring maximum convenience for users. “Whether in major cities or remote rural areas, finding a charging station is now effortless,” he remarked.

According to the expert, another critical factor is the growing consumer trust in VinFast’s electric vehicle quality. Having observed the safety testing of several VinFast electric vehicle models, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lý Hùng Anh noted that their safety standards and technological features surpass many competitors in the same price range. This has fostered confidence among owners and attracted increasing acceptance.

Overall, he praised VinFast’s “consumer-centric approach,” especially since electric vehicles are still relatively new compared to decades of gasoline car development. Without genuine convenience and accessibility, it would be challenging for Vietnamese consumers to embrace this new mode of transportation.

“Buyers no longer feel they’re compromising by choosing electric vehicles. Instead, they’re getting a valuable product for their investment. VinFast has achieved what many global automakers are still struggling with: making electric vehicles accessible and practical for consumers,” commented Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lý Hùng Anh.

Echoing this sentiment, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Đàm Hoàng Phúc suggested that, given the combination of quality, service, infrastructure, and after-sales support, 100,000 electric vehicles could be just the beginning of even more impressive milestones for VinFast.
