Vietjet shares (ticker: VJC), owned by billionaire Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, surged over 6% to VND 173,500 per share in a recent trading session. After four consecutive days of gains, VJC’s stock price has climbed more than 30%, nearing its all-time high set in early April 2018.

The airline’s market capitalization also surpassed VND 100 trillion for the first time in over seven years, marking a 70% increase since the beginning of the year.

The sharp rise in stock price has significantly boosted billionaire Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao’s wealth. According to Forbes, as of October 16, her net worth reached USD 4.1 billion, ranking her 974th among the world’s wealthiest individuals. This places her firmly as Vietnam’s second-richest person, behind only Pham Nhat Vuong.

To date, Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao remains Vietnam’s first and only female USD billionaire on Forbes’ list of the world’s richest people. Earlier this year, Forbes recognized her as the 42nd wealthiest woman globally among the top 50.

Beyond her role as Vietjet’s Chairwoman, Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao also chairs Sovico, one of Vietnam’s largest private conglomerates. Additionally, she serves as Vice Chairwoman of HDBank (ticker: HDB), with a significant portion of her wealth tied to HDB shares.

Vietjet currently operates a fleet of 130 modern aircraft, serving 170 domestic and international routes, and has transported over 250 million passengers. On October 14, Vietjet was once again honored by the World Travel Awards (WTA) as “Asia’s Leading Airline – Customer Experience 2025,” reinforcing its industry leadership.

The award ceremony, held in Hong Kong, China, gathered top executives, experts, and representatives from leading global aviation, tourism, and hospitality brands.

Graham Cooke, Founder of World Travel Awards, remarked: “Vietjet continues to set the benchmark for customer service in aviation, and I am thrilled that both professionals and the public recognize the achievements celebrated today. The dedication of the entire Vietjet team is an inspiration to us all.”

Previously, Vietjet has been honored by prestigious international organizations such as Skytrax, Airline Ratings, World Business Outlook, and has received numerous awards for its services in key markets like South Korea and India.
