A survey at Tan Dinh Market (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City), famously known as the “rich people’s market,” revealed that lychee prices currently range from VND 30,000 to 40,000 per kg for land transportation and VND 60,000 to 70,000 per kg for air freight.
In the local markets and street vendors, lychees are sold at a similar price range of VND 20,000 to 25,000 per kg for fresh produce, with slightly cheaper options available for older fruits.

Lychees are at their lowest prices in years
Apart from traditional markets, residents of Ho Chi Minh City can also purchase lychees online, with home delivery options offering similar prices to market rates, provided they buy in combos of 5 or 10 kg.
A recent TikTok Shop livestream event, in collaboration with Sendo Farm, offered a combo of 5 kg of lychees for only VND 107,500 per kg. Meanwhile, some other vendors promoted their Global GAP-certified lychees, selling combos of 5 kg for nearly VND 200,000.
Mr. Nguyen Binh Phuong, Deputy Director of Thu Duc Agricultural Products Wholesale Market (Ho Chi Minh City), confirmed the oversupply of lychees in the market due to high volumes and low consumption.
“Currently, various types of fruits are in season, leading to an excess of supply. Traders also reported an abundance of lychees in the growing regions, while the consumption capacity of Ho Chi Minh City is limited,” said Mr. Phuong.

Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Chau, owner of the Trai Vuon Tam Ngoc brand and a member of the Agricultural 4.0 Cooperative, shared her experience after returning from Bac Giang province during the peak business season for fresh lychees. At the beginning of the lychee season in Northern Vietnam, the early-ripening lychee varieties fetched high prices, with some garden owners selling their produce for over VND 100,000 per kg.

Early-ripening lychee varieties command higher prices
Currently, lychee prices in the region range from VND 7,000 to 10,000 per kg (market price) to VND 20,000-22,000 per kg for premium selections. These prices are considered the lowest in many years.
The reason for the low prices this year is attributed to unusual weather patterns, causing a delay in the ripening process. By the Dragon Boat Festival (5th day of the 5th lunar month), there were very few lychees available for sale.
For the past two weeks, the lychee gardens have been bearing fruit simultaneously, resulting in a large yield that exceeds the consumption capacity. Many gardens are now turning to lychee drying to preserve the fruit for year-round sales.
Last year, a poor lychee harvest left many in Ho Chi Minh City unable to purchase the fruit before the season ended. During that time, lychee prices were generally above VND 50,000 per kg.
