Gia Binh Moves Closer to Becoming the New Northern Aviation Gateway with Over $7.8 Billion Investment

The National Appraisal Council has finalized its report to the Government regarding the investment policy for the Gia Binh International Airport project. According to the appraisal results, the investment plan meets the requirements and has been approved by more than two-thirds of the council members.

Based on this consensus, the council recommends the Government to consider approving the investment policy and assigns the Ministry of Construction to collaborate with the investor to finalize the dossier for submission to the National Assembly. Once approved, the Minister of Construction will be authorized by the Prime Minister to present the dossier to the National Assembly.

As envisioned, Gia Binh Airport will serve as a strategic aviation hub, alleviating pressure on Noi Bai Airport and fostering new growth for the Capital Region and the Northern Key Economic Zone. The airport is designed to meet ICAO 4F standards, capable of handling wide-body, long-range aircraft.

Masterise Group, the proposed investor, aims for an initial capacity of 30 million passengers per year, expanding to 50 million passengers annually after 2050. Upon completion of both phases, it will be one of the largest airports in the country.

Four Runways, Integrated Infrastructure

A standout feature of the project is the four runways arranged in two independent pairs, with a distance of 1,800 meters between clusters, allowing for fully parallel operations. The taxiways, aprons, aviation technical areas, aircraft maintenance facilities, and underground fuel storage all meet international standards.

In addition to the passenger terminal, the project includes an aviation logistics complex offering aircraft repair, overhaul, catering, fuel supply, ground equipment maintenance, and cargo logistics services.

The non-aviation services area will feature a commercial-logistics-passenger support complex, integrated with security, rescue, multimodal transportation systems, and other auxiliary facilities, adhering to green, smart, and sustainable standards.

The project will utilize approximately 1,884 hectares of land, surpassing Noi Bai Airport (1,500 ha) as the largest airport in the North. Nationally, it ranks second only to Long Thanh Airport (5,000 ha). The operation period is set at 70 years.

The total investment for both phases exceeds 196.37 trillion VND (approximately $7.8 billion at current exchange rates). This includes 29.45 trillion VND in equity and over 166.92 trillion VND raised from legal sources.

The airport aims to accommodate aircraft types such as B777, B787, A350, A321, and other specialized aircraft. Gia Binh International Airport will implement CAT III approach and landing standards for runway 07L/25R and CAT II standards for runway 07R/25L.
