Unprecedented Price Drop for iPhone 17
This year’s iPhone 17 series pricing has taken a unique turn compared to previous years. The usual scarcity, especially for Pro and Pro Max models, has been notably absent. All high-end versions, including the latest colors, are readily available, meeting demand effortlessly.
Historically, new iPhone releases maintained their prices for several months. However, this year’s market buzz lasted only a few days before stabilizing. Weaker-than-expected demand and ample supply have led to increased inventory, prompting retailers to launch discounts just one month after release.
Current widespread discounts include:
iPhone 17 Pro (1TB): Steepest discount of 2 million VND, now 45.99 million VND.
iPhone 17 (512GB): 1 million VND reduction, now 30.59 million VND.
iPhone 17 Pro Max (2TB): 1 million VND off, now 62.99 million VND.
Other variants also see discounts ranging from 200,000 to 1 million VND based on storage.
This discount wave extends to older models, with iPhone 16 series dropping up to 3.7 million VND and iPhone 15 series up to 7 million VND across retailers.
Silver Color Paradox: Bucking the Trend
Amidst the cooling market, an intriguing color preference shift has emerged.
Initially, the new Cosmic Orange color was highly sought after, driving prices up by millions. However, after reports of color-changing issues, its appeal has waned.
Conversely, the iPhone 17 Pro Max in Silver has gained traction. This classic color is free from reported issues and better conceals scratches, making it a practical choice.
As a result, Cosmic Orange prices have adjusted, now only slightly above the list price (around 38.5 million VND for 256GB). Meanwhile, Silver models have seen significant price increases, with immediate availability costing over 40 million VND, making it the most expensive color option.
Market analysts highlight positive early signals for the iPhone 17 series. Unlike previous years, not just Pro models but also the standard iPhone 17 saw high pre-order demand, with overall sales up 30-50% compared to 2024’s first week. This reflects users’ eagerness to upgrade.
- Weak Demand: Sluggish tech product demand, compounded by prolonged rainy weather, has negatively impacted purchasing.
- Abundant Supply: Apple’s well-prepared inventory for Vietnam has eliminated past shortages, forcing retailers to discount to clear stock.
Despite ample supply, early buyers often accepted color or storage changes for quicker delivery. The 256GB variant remains the most popular across all models. While supply is expected to meet demand through year-end, Tet holiday distribution will depend on Apple’s plans.
