Prolonged rainy seasons in Ho Chi Minh City have sparked a surge in demand for clothes dryers, a stark contrast to their previously sluggish sales. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong, a resident of An Khanh Ward, shared her experience: “With the constant rain, clothes take 2-3 days to dry, forcing me to use an iron, which is both time-consuming and costly. Eventually, my family decided to invest in a dryer.”
Similarly, Ms. Tran Thi Nga from Thanh My Tay Ward explained that her previous role as a homemaker allowed her to manage laundry. However, her new job at Tan Son Nhat Airport, with its demanding schedule and the ongoing rainy weather, made traditional drying methods impractical. This led her to purchase a dryer to efficiently manage her family’s laundry needs.
As reported by Bao Nguoi Lao Dong, retailers have capitalized on this growing demand. Major electronics stores in Ho Chi Minh City, including Dien May Xanh, Nguyen Kim, and Cho Lon, have launched a wide range of dryers and washer-dryer combos. To stimulate sales, these retailers are offering significant discounts, with some products reduced by up to 40%.

Clothes dryers are available at prices ranging from a few million to tens of millions of Vietnamese dong.
For instance, the Toshiba 7 kg dryer is now priced at 5.9 million VND (20% off), the Aqua 8 kg model at 6.9 million VND (31% off), and the LG 10.5 kg variant at 18.9 million VND (33% off). The Samsung 9 kg dryer has seen a substantial reduction of nearly 10 million VND, now available at approximately 14 million VND.
Washer-dryer combos are also heavily discounted: the Bosch 10 kg model is down to 17 million VND (7 million VND off), the Aqua 13 kg model to 19 million VND (10 million VND off), and the Whirlpool 10.5 kg model to 9 million VND.

Washer-dryer combos are priced at tens of millions of Vietnamese dong.
Mr. Nguyen Thu, a salesperson at an electronics store in Binh Trung Ward, noted: “Previously, dryers sold very slowly due to their high price and concerns about electricity consumption. However, this year’s continuous rain has significantly increased customer inquiries and purchases, a stark contrast to the past when we’d go weeks without a single order.”
Industry experts attribute this boom to the prolonged rainy season, which has boosted demand for appliances suited to wet weather, such as dryers, drying cabinets, and air purifiers. Current consumer trends also indicate that urban residents are willing to invest in household conveniences, particularly busy young families with limited time for traditional drying methods.
