According to the Traffic Police Department, recently, with the deployment of AI camera systems on roads, there has been an increase in cases where car, motorcycle, and moped drivers obscure or alter their license plates to evade detection and penalties by authorities.
Additionally, some individuals exploit obscured license plates to engage in criminal activities, avoiding arrest and pursuit.
The Traffic Police Department identifies these actions as deliberate violations aimed at evading enforcement by traffic police and other authorities, disrupting public order and safety.
Current laws impose strict penalties for such violations. Car drivers face fines of up to 23 million VND and a deduction of 2 points from their driver’s license, while motorcycle and moped drivers face fines of 5 million VND and a deduction of 6 points.
To enhance deterrence, the Traffic Police Department plans to propose stricter penalties for offenses such as improperly positioned or formatted license plates, obscured or altered characters and numbers, and the use of materials other than paint to modify license plates.
The Traffic Police Department encourages the public to submit videos and images of drivers obscuring their license plates for strict enforcement.
