Illegal Gold Smuggler Caught Transporting 440g of Gold Worth Over $60,000 in Da Nang

A man from Da Nang City was caught smuggling over 440 grams of gold from Laos into Vietnam at the border crossing.

On November 20th, the Da Nang City Police Department’s Division of Investigation for Corruption, Economic, Smuggling, and Environmental Crimes initiated legal proceedings and detained Ngo Van Dong (40 years old, residing in Thuong Duc Commune, Da Nang City) for illegally transporting gold from Laos into Vietnam.

According to the investigation, on November 8th, Ngo Van Dong was hired by a woman in Laos to transport two pieces of yellow metal, totaling over 440 grams, into Vietnam for a fee of 2 million VND per trip.

Upon completing entry procedures at the Nam Giang International Border Gate in Dac Ooc Village, La Dee Commune, Da Nang City, authorities discovered the concealed gold and apprehended the suspect in the act.

The gold was appraised at over 1.5 billion VND. The Da Nang City Police Investigation Agency is currently expanding its investigation into the case.
