Direct Routes to Long Thanh Airport Accelerate Towards Completion

Among these routes, the upgrade project of Ton Duc Thang Road (25B), spanning from the center of Nhon Trach Commune to National Highway 51, is slated for technical completion by late 2025. Its primary objective is to establish a seamless transportation link between Long Thanh Airport and Ho Chi Minh City.

Numerous highways and infrastructure projects are racing to upgrade and complete connections to Long Thanh Airport from Ho Chi Minh City and surrounding areas.

Recently, roads T1 and T2 connecting Long Thanh Airport to National Highway 51 and the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway were completed and will open on December 19th. The project began in July 2023 with a total investment of over 2.63 trillion VND. This is a crucial component of Phase 1, Section 3 of the Long Thanh Airport project.

Road T1 stretches 3.8 km, starting from the west gate of Long Thanh Airport, connecting to the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway, National Highway 51, and ending at Provincial Road 25C.

Meanwhile, Road T2 connects to the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway from T1, spanning 3.5 km with four lanes divided into two independent branches running parallel to the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway. The connecting bridge from T2 to the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway has completed electrical pole installation and awaits road marking. A portion of the T2 interchange with the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway is accelerating construction for technical opening on December 19th, making it the most complex interchange in the expressway project.

Multiple road projects committed to completion before Long Thanh Airport’s operation.

Additionally, roads 25B and 25C will open for technical traffic by late 2025 and early 2026, respectively, to connect to Long Thanh Airport.

The upgrade of Road 25B (Ton Duc Thang Road) from Nhon Trach town center to National Highway 51 is being expedited by Dong Nai Province for technical opening before December 19th. Road 25C, from National Highway 51 to Huong Lo 19, will complete technical opening by March 2026.

According to planning, these roads will connect Long Thanh Airport via National Highway 51 to the Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway and Ho Chi Minh City’s Ring Road 3, alleviating traffic on the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway. Road 25B spans over 9.2 km with a total investment of nearly 1.5 trillion VND, while Road 25C is over 2 km long with an investment of over 647 billion VND.

The technical opening of Ton Duc Thang Road (25B) by late 2025 will boost property values around Long Thanh Airport. Located along Road 25B, the FIATO Airport City project directly benefits from this infrastructure, fostering commercial development along its frontage and reducing travel time to Long Thanh Airport.

FIATO Airport City is situated between the Thu Thiem – Long Thanh metro stations (only 500m apart), allowing residents to reach the airport in 5 minutes by metro or 10 minutes by road. Notably, the handover of the Galaxy block in Q4/2026 coincides with the stable operation of Long Thanh Airport, ensuring a massive customer base—from 14,000 airport staff and locals to millions of tourists—ready to fill the commercial services in the project’s podium from day one.

Another key infrastructure project in Dong Nai connecting to Long Thanh Airport is the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway, which is accelerating to open for technical traffic by year-end. This 54 km project began in June 2023 and is expected to operate by 2026.

On April 19, 2025, the 19.8 km section through the former Ba Ria – Vung Tau area (now part of Ho Chi Minh City, under Section 3) opened for technical traffic. To expedite progress and achieve full technical opening by December 19th, Dong Nai Province Chairman Vo Tan Duc, at a late October 2025 meeting, tasked the Provincial Project Management Board with supervising contractors daily. Contractors are urged to maximize resources, work day and night, including Sundays, to meet deadlines.

According to the plan, Phase 1 of Long Thanh Airport will begin commercial operations in mid-2026, with a capacity of 25 million passengers annually, or tens of thousands daily. Thus, transportation connectivity is paramount for the airport’s efficient operation.

Vietnam Airlines (ACV) reports that upon opening, most passengers will travel between Long Thanh Airport and Ho Chi Minh City. In this context, the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway is the initial backbone connection.

On August 19, 2025, the expansion of the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh Expressway section officially began construction. Contractors are working to complete it by 2026, as directed by the Prime Minister. This is a key transportation project connecting to Long Thanh Airport.

Alongside the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway, numerous expressway, ring road, and provincial road projects have been developed to support Long Thanh Airport’s connectivity. These projects are slated for completion by late 2025 and operation in 2026, aligning with the airport’s commercial launch.

In early September 2025, during an inspection of Long Thanh Airport Phase 1, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha emphasized that the airport’s progress depends not only on internal components but also on external transportation systems.

Therefore, the Ministry of Construction, Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai Province, and relevant agencies must accelerate infrastructure projects, including Ring Road 3, the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh Expressway expansion, and connections by VEC and the Ministry of Construction. All are committed to completion before Long Thanh Airport’s operation.
