Lien Khuong Airport to Undergo Major Upgrades
Lien Khuong Airport will cease operations for six months, from March 4 to August 25, 2026, to facilitate runway, taxiway, and infrastructure upgrades.
This announcement was made by the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) during a meeting with the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee on November 25. The closure period has been reduced by two months compared to the original plan.
Construction is expected to take over four months, with the airport reopening on September 1, 2026.
The project, with a total investment of over VND 966 billion, includes the construction of a new 3,250-meter-long, 45-meter-wide runway, the renovation of taxiways and drainage systems, and the installation of equipment foundations. ACV will conduct calibration flights before resuming operations.
ACV representatives stated that the upgrade is urgent due to the deteriorating condition of the runway, taxiways, drainage systems, and lighting after continuous use.
The project’s design and bidding documents for construction supervision and installation are nearly complete. ACV plans to finalize contractor selection and sign contracts in December 2025 to meet the scheduled closure timeline.
Vice Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee, Nguyen Hong Hai, urged ACV to minimize construction time, aiming for completion before August 25, 2026, to ensure smooth travel for residents and tourists to Da Lat during the September 2 holiday. He emphasized, “The sooner the construction is completed, the better.”
Located approximately 30 km from Da Lat city center, Lien Khuong Airport was built in 1933 and officially recognized as the first international airport in the Central Highlands region in June 2024.
Under the 2030 master plan, Lien Khuong Airport will achieve 4E status, with a capacity of 5 million passengers annually. Plans include the addition of Terminal 2 for international flights, positioning the airport as a key aviation hub connecting the Central Highlands with domestic and international economic and tourism centers.
In addition to domestic routes, Lien Khuong Airport serves international flights to and from Thailand, Malaysia, and other destinations.
