The State Bank of Vietnam reports that the banking sector now holds over 136.1 million individual customer files (CIF) and more than 1.4 million organizational customer files verified through biometric data via chip-embedded citizen ID cards or the VneID app.

Additionally, 57 credit institutions and 39 payment intermediaries have implemented the chip-embedded citizen ID card application via mobile devices. Sixty-three credit institutions have deployed this application through in-branch devices. Thirty-two credit institutions and 15 payment intermediaries are currently implementing the VneID app, with 21 units (16 credit institutions and 5 payment intermediaries) having officially launched it.

To ensure security and safety in payment activities and banking operational systems, and to combat high-tech crimes in the banking sector, the State Bank of Vietnam regularly and proactively monitors and directs payment service providers and intermediaries to strengthen security measures in payment operations.

The State Bank’s Information System for Monitoring and Preventing Customer Risks (SIMO) has been piloted, and as of October 31, 2025, over 1.7 million customers have received alerts. Of these, more than 567,000 customers have halted or canceled transactions after receiving warnings, involving a total transaction value exceeding 2.2 trillion VND.

The banking sector is also a pioneer in utilizing national population data for digital transformation. Solutions for data cleansing, accurate customer information verification, and application in banking operations have enhanced security, safety, and customer experience.

In implementing the connection and sharing of national population data—a foundation for digital identification and authentication—the State Bank of Vietnam has closely followed the Prime Minister’s directives and the Government’s Task Force in deploying the Project on Developing the Application of Population Data, Digital Identification, and Authentication for National Digital Transformation (Project 06) for the 2022-2025 period, with a vision to 2030. The bank has also actively collaborated with the Ministry of Public Security and relevant agencies to effectively and synchronously implement Project 06 within the banking sector./.
