Recently, the Traffic Police Department published a list of 166 traffic violations detected by AI cameras. These violations were recorded between November 26th (12:00 PM) and November 27th (12:00 PM) on the Noi Bai – Lao Cai Expressway at the 20 km mark, where 13,652 vehicles were monitored with an average speed of 72 km/h. Among these, 10 cases of drivers not wearing seatbelts were identified and reported to vehicle owners for further action.

Additionally, AI cameras at the intersection of Pham Van Bach and Hoang Quan Chi streets in Hanoi’s city center detected 19 motorcyclists without helmets, 133 instances of disregarding traffic signals, and 2 cases of driving in the wrong direction. On Le Van Luong Street, 2 vehicles were caught driving in the wrong lane. All violations have been forwarded to Hanoi’s Public Security and relevant authorities for processing.

Previously, on November 26th, the Traffic Police Department released a list of 134 traffic violations detected by AI cameras between November 25th (12:00 PM) and November 26th (12:00 PM). During this period, 13,434 vehicles were monitored on the Noi Bai – Lao Cai Expressway at the 20 km mark, with an average speed of 74 km/h. Five cases of drivers not wearing seatbelts were identified and reported to the authorities.

At the Pham Van Bach – Hoang Quan Chi intersection, 8 motorcyclists were caught without helmets, 113 ignored traffic signals, and 3 drove in the wrong direction. On Le Van Luong Street, 4 vehicles were detected driving in the wrong lane. These cases have been referred to Hanoi’s Public Security and relevant units for further action.

What are the penalties for motorcyclists not wearing helmets and running red lights under Decree 168?

According to the Traffic Police Department’s report, the most common violations are motorcyclists not wearing helmets and disregarding traffic signals.

Under points h and i, clause 2, Article 7 of Decree 168/2024/NĐ-CP, effective from January 1, 2025, motorcyclists and similar vehicle drivers who commit the following violations will be fined between VND 400,000 and VND 600,000:

h) Not wearing a helmet or wearing a helmet without properly fastening the strap while driving on public roads;

i) Carrying passengers who are not wearing helmets or wearing helmets without properly fastening the strap, except in cases of medical emergencies, transporting children under 6, or escorting individuals violating the law.

Under point c, clause 7, Article 7 of Decree 168, motorcyclists and similar vehicle drivers who disregard traffic signals will be fined between VND 4 million and VND 6 million. Additionally, violators will lose 4 points on their driver’s license, as per point b, clause 13, Article 7.

Under point b, clause 10, Article 7 of Decree 168/2024/NĐ-CP, motorcyclists and similar vehicle drivers who disregard traffic signals and cause accidents will be fined between VND 10 million and VND 14 million. Violators will also lose 10 points on their driver’s license.
